I remember Jim telling me one time that he used to be a Highland Park Policeman. As always, Jim had the best self deprecating humor. He mentioned that with his ears, freckles and red hair, he didn't get taken too seriously so he took a change in profession. I kept thinking what a loss it was to any profession that lost him. Jim gave so much of himself to teaching. There was a student in my class that had decided to quit school early. Jim reached out to her and said he would pick her up and bring her to the school for final exams. Although she chose not to, how many teachers would extend that much of themselves to help others? That was Jim Dunlap!

I think of Jim all the time! Being the coordinator of a ladies' hiking group, I'm in the woods all the time and what I've learned from Jim about wild animals - and especially snakes - goes with me every day. And his sense of humor! I have such fond memories of volunteering at the Living Materials Center and all the crazy animal adventures (and misadventures) we experienced. I will always remember and be thankful for crossing paths with Jim!

Jim was my Physical Science teacher in 1977. He was the only teacher I ever had that gave me the love for a subject I had no interest in. He excited you about learing and I have never had a teacher like him again. The work he did with the living center showed his care and compassion for life. He will be missed by all that knew him. Mr. Dunlap and family,
I saw him many times as a child growing up in the 80's and 90's in Plano. I always loved having him in our school along with Katy. He made so many things come alive for us. God rest him.

I was just trying to find Jimmy on the internet to tell him his favorite high school Biology teacher, Ted Sherrill had passed away and saw where Jimmy has already passed away. I was in the band at MHS with Jimmy and later worked with is dad Junior at University Park. I know everyone misses him. So sorry for his family's loss.

I remember building out the original space under PSHS behind the HVAC class. Circa 1980. The magic of that center was just that, magic. Jim

Jim was such a humble, kindhearted and compassionate man. He could brighten a room without even trying. I met Jim in 1984 when I started in Animal Control. I admired his knowledge and his natural knack with all the critters. Jim was a beautiful person all of us were blessed to meet. The world lost a precious soul.
With thoughts and prayers.

To Jimmy and Family,
All the fun times thru the years that we have all shared together, as families. Thank you for all the memories you left us, Jimmy, we miss you terribly. The trips to Sherman just won't be the same, the trips to the beach will be different, and you will be absent from the family reunion, as our official photographer. You brought sunshine where ever you happen to be. You always had an upbeat attitude even when you wern't feeling that way. We miss you so much, but know that you are the happiest ever now that you have been reunited with Peggy, your beloved soul mate. Forever and ever Amen!

Well the first time I met Jim is when I was a child. I had him as a teacher and what a great teacher he was and that was in Lewisville Texas. Then later in life I went to Plano Sr High he was not my teacher there, but got to see him often as his class room was by the Ag department.
Then later I got the privilege of working with him again at that time he was the director of the Holifield Science Learning Center. It was always a pleasure talking to Jim and learning from him. If you needed to know anything about any type of animal he would always be willing to help. He taught some classes at the city and he had great advice and always had a great story or two to go along with the teaching. He will be missed and no one can hold a candle to what a great man Jim Dunlap was. I hold him up there like Steve Irwin and Jack Hanna!
Dear Jim thank you for being part of my life and many other. Thank you so much for helping all the animals you did in your life time and thank you for giving your knowledge to others. Thank you for getting the Holifield Science Learning Center up and running for child to learn and experience what they might not every get in experience in there life.
And thank you for always being positive and funny. Prayers to you and your family and so glad you and Peggy are reunited again.

I remember the day that "Dr. Dunlap" visited the entire 1st grade with his Python (approximately 34 years ago) at Davis Elementary. He was very personable and identfied easily with his audience. Having felt connected, the kids in the neighborhood would occassionaly ride our bikes to bring him an orphaned/injured squirrel, rabbit, bird, etc. at the Senior High. Dr. Dunlap was very passionate about helping animals and impacted the lives of ountless kids through his generosity, knowledge and overall kindness. Thank you Dr. Dunlap and God bless your friends and family during this time.

I met Jim in 1982 while doing Animal Control for Richardson. He taught me so much through the years and even got me almost over my fear of snakes. While I worked for two more cities Jim was always there to take orphaned baby wildlife, all unusual looking animals and identifying animals for me. Jim Dunlap is a true blessing to all humans and animals that he took care of. I'll miss him but know he's smiling down on all of us and is happynto be with Peggy again.
