Joan Bulley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 15, 2024.
Joan Elaine Bulley, of West Chester, died on Monday, February 12, 2024. She was born to William and Elizabeth Humes in the southwest section of Philadelphia where she grew up and subsequently graduated from Bartram High School. She treasured her family and friends and often said she had a wonderful life. Joan enjoyed working at the library, summer vacations at the shore with her family, reading, doing puzzles and needlework, playing tennis, and traveling. Throughout her life she happily cared for many people in a myriad of ways as she genuinely felt called to the service of others. She frequently expressed gratitude for her many blessings as well as the kindness that so many people showed towards her. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her as her strength and fortitude were an inspiration to all. At the time of her passing, she was a vibrant 93 year old who had a great joy for living and a deep, abiding love of God.

Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Harry U. Bulley, and her three older siblings, Elizabeth Hopper, Clara Bingham, and Robert Humes.

She is survived by her 3 girls: Brenda Shantz and her husband Terry; Bonnie Hiscox and her husband Dr. Richard; Beth Benner and her partner A. Steven DiFrancesco; as well as her 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: David Shantz and his wife Kate and their 2 children Colin and Lauren; Paul Shantz and his wife Kristin and their 2 daughters Elliotte and Rylin; Stephen Shantz and his wife Katie; Andrew Shantz; Michael Hiscox and his wife Aubree; Harry Hamilton; Brandon Hiscox; Megan Hiscox; Mark Benner, Jr. and his wife Megan and their daughter Charleigh; Elizabeth Benner; and Dr. Brian Benner and his wife Kelsey and their son Oliver.
