Joan McGuire Daniel

As the center of her final Daniel family huddle, with Gaelic music softly playing at her bedside, Joan McGuire Daniel, 81, left us peacefully on Friday, January 27, 2017 in Richmond Va. Joan's comforting Southern grace and charm, along with her easy smile and chuckle made her everyone's friend. She is missed and remembered by many. Born to Tyson and Virginia (née Bossung) McGuire in Tupelo, MS, Joan touched countless as a mother, daughter, sister, wife, grandmother, aunt, fan, friend and staunch defender of her Roman Catholic faith. Ever the hostess, Joan's generous lasagna, her Brunswick stew, brownies, 'CPBO' bars and most remarkable, her "Mrs D's Fine Fudge" attracted frequent visits from family and friends, teammates and fraternity brothers. Known as their beloved "Joansie" to her grand and great-grandchildren, no birthday or holiday passed without Joansie's loving touch. Joan was devout. In the later years of her life, she was a loyal parishioner at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church in Richmond. Earlier in her days as an Army wife, with endless faith, Joan graced parishes on Army posts in Europe and throughout the United States. She was an unrelenting fan. Often the loudest supporter in the bleachers, Joansie's signature call for strength, power and effort was unmistakable and a source of sheepish smiles and warmth for her children and grandchildren. We always knew when Joansie was in the stands! She celebrated the victories. She soothed the sting of failures. With her family of a husband and six children, Joan navigated roadways, airways and life with principles, love and faith. As a diligent servant, Joan served through her work at the "Catholic Virginian," the Union Presbyterian Seminary for Christian Education (Richmond) and on many efforts and committees at St. Benedict's. Her zest and zeal was appreciated by all with whom she worked and all she touched. Joansie is survived by her children, John S. (Jack) Daniel III of Richmond, Va., Elizabeth S.
