Joan Friedman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 27, 2004.
Joan Friedman, 79, of Mineola, New York moved to Tempe, Arizona in 1982, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2004 at 12:20 in the afternoon after a valiant battle with emphysema over fourteen years. She was the widow of Harold J. Friedman, the devoted mother of three children and loving grandmother of six. She was a teenager during World War II, danced in New York, and was introduced, through a mutual friend, to her husband, who sang opera. It was love at first sight, as if fate brought them together. Their birthdays were the same day and month. Her charm and beauty will live on in the memory of all those who were fortunate to know her. She retired from an apartment management company, and became an active and enthusiastic volunteer for the Democratic Party. She was named “Volunteer of the Year” for her work during former President Clinton's campaign. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Terry and her husband Gary Wallace of Arizona, her son Martin Friedman and his wife Lisa of Colorado, her son Gerald Terry and his wife Connie, of New York, and her six grandchildren, Jonathan, Olivia, Alexander, Melissa, Christopher and Alicia. Her caregiver and loving friend Stella Giorno was with her through her last moments. There will be no services held. Interment will take place Monday, November 1,2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Veteran's Cemetery on Pinnacle Peak Road east of Highway 101.
