Joan Marciel Obituary
Joan was born in Valletta, Malta on April 7, 1941 to Roy Huntbach and Mary Farrugia. The setting of her birth was the catacombs of Malta as the Germans were bombing the island during World War II. She graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California. She worked for many years as an executive secretary at Lockheed Martin Corporation in Sunnyvale.
As an island girl of England and Malta, Joan married into the Polynesian culture of Hawai'i, becoming an accomplished and respected Hula and Tahitian dancer. She was a longtime member of Hui 'Ilima of Santa Clara County, California. She was also a talented seamstress who made wedding dresses and men's suits.
Joan is survived by her husband Francis (Keonona), her younger sister Rosemary, her two sons, Rick Kealohaokalani and Keokani Kipona, and her granddaughter Alissa Kealohilani. She is predeceased by her younger brother David, and her pet chihuahua Moki. She will be forever cherished in our hearts.
In celebration of her life, family and friends are welcome to spend time with us and share her life story and legacy together.

I'm sorry to read about Joan's passing. She and Keo and I were members of Hui Ilima for many years. After they moved to Hawaii and then Las Vegas I would visit with them. I was fascinated to know that she was born on Malta when the island was under attack in WWII.

Aunty Joan was always so lovely. Whoever I saw her, she radiated her bright smile, sweet heart, and thoughtful affection.
I will miss her and am sorry to Keo and her sons KeoKani, and Richard, and all those who will miss her.
