To the Mathias family:

So sorry to hear about Joan

I thought the tribute given by the family at the vigil was very moving.

To the "southern Mathias cousins":

So sorry to hear of Aunt Joan's passing. I'll always remember her as a no-nonsense, fun loving, devoted to her family woman. Colleen and I want to express our most sincere sympathies.

I can still hear the cackling as I would walk up Don & June's sidewalk when y'all were visiting up north. I never heard so much laughter and spontaneous jocularity! And, it seemed, Aunt Joan was always right there in the middle of it!

The pictures you shared on the site were excellent. What a life she and Uncle Dick led. They always seemed so inseparable and are now both together, once again. May God bless them both.

We will remember her and you all in our rosaries and have a Mass said for the repose of her soul.

God bless you all.

My Dear Sweet Cousins,
What a lovely tribute to your precious Mama. She and your Daddy have left behind quite a legacy. How very blessed we are to be part of such an incredible family. Aunt Joan was quite a lady, so many wonderful memories, she and your Daddy were wonderful examples of love and committment. Joan Beaudry Mathias will be greatly missed, but always remembered! You are all in our thoughts and prayers. May the God of Peace guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and may His comfort sustain you in the coming days. Praise God for such wonderful memories!

Linda,
I am so sorry for your loss. I know how much your mother meant to you just from hearing you talk of her. We all know she is in a much better place now and is no longer suffering. You and your family are in my prayers.

To the Mathias family:
I have such wonderful memories of your mother and your family when I was a small child. I used to be your neighbor, Elizabeth Montgomery, daughter of Luther "Monte" and Dewanna Montgomery, who lived on Jordan Street. My husband, Tom and I have moved back into the old neighborhood last year. The house that your family lived in still remains, and I often think of you.
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful and beautiful lady. I know she will be missed. God bless you always, Elizabeth M. Arceneaux

Linda,
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. One thing to remember is that she is not suffering anymore. I am sure that God needed one more Angel and he chose her.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Mrs. Joan Marie Beaudry Mathias a dedicated registered nurse who served 21 years at the Overton Brooks Veterans Administration Hospital. To her family it symbolizes the love and respect that we veterans have for Joan. And to Joan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank her for her service and devotion to her family, her country and to the veterans of the ArkLaTex. Joan we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,307 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Joan’s family and loved ones.
