I will always remember how wonderful Aunt Joan was and the way she always had a smile and kind word for anyone she met. But more than her kindness, Aunt Joan was a very funny and entertaining person.

Years ago, when my siblings and I were quite young, whenever a family member would go on a cruise the whole family would celebrate this event with a Bon Voyage sendoff party on the cruise ship before it set sail. This one particular year the ship was late arriving at the dock, therefore, in order to `turn over´ the cabins, non-cruise guests were not allowed onboard to celebrate. Disappointed but not deterred, our whole family, and many of the other guests, set up a tailgate party under the West Side Highway adjacent to the ship. When the time grew near to wave goodbye to the cruise guests, we all made our way to the parking platform with hundreds of other well-wishers. The first (of three) of the ship´s horns blew to signal the countdown to departure. We tried to spot our family members taking the trip and eventually did see them amongst the other passengers. The second horn blew, which signaled that the ship would be leaving soon. Somewhere amongst the shouting and celebration, some asked where Joan was. We had lost track of her and no one knew for how long. It was at this moment that someone spotted Joan on the deck of the cruise ship that was about to depart! Somehow, she had found her way onto the ship and was standing there waving back at all of us. We immediately started yelling for her to get off the ship! By some miracle, Joan quickly found two helpful crew members that `escorted´ her down the gangplank and off the ship before the third and final horn blew. We laughed about this experience for years to come and is one of the fondest, and funniest, memories I have of her.

I will always remember the amazing christmas dinners in Aunt Joan & Uncle Jimmy's basement. We always looked forward to this day, gathering with family, playing games with our cousins and sitting down for dinner. We all miss & love you very much.
