When I first met Joan in 2002, I immediately appreciated her great sense of humour. She always had sparkles in her eyes when she talked about her kids and grandkids. Joan was a fighter. Although confined to a wheelchair, suffering from MS and kidney cancer, she never gave up the fight. And she never lost that sparkle in her eyes. Joan, I know you are in a good place now and we'll always remember.

Joan and I met at Ashton Tate and became the best of friends. I will miss "our chats" and the warm understanding she had about things. She was a loyal friend who was always there to help and has left a positive impression on my heart that will remain always.

My mom Joan Brandt Melson was a tireless giver. She would sacrifice things she wanted in order to help raise her children. I was given many opportunties because of her. My mom went through a lot during her life, from her mom's suffering with multiple sclerosis, and the death of her first son and first daughters, to her own battle with kidney cancer and multiple sclerosis. She never gave up. And it is that which I will always remember. I love you Mom. Always yours, Your Son, John
