Joan Mohler

Maxwell - Joan Gayle Mohler was born June 21, 1935 to Jeanne (Harris) and Dale Ruemelin in Lincoln, Nebraska. She died February 22, 2018 at Bethany Life, in Story City, Iowa. Her parents, sister Bonnie Cusack, and husband Richard preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children Jeanne Mohler, M.D. (Fred Jenness) and Martin Mohler (Ann Skrycki), as well as two grandchildren Jon (Shanna) and Christopher. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Paul Viers, three nephews and two nieces.

She graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa, and attended Drake University, where she met her husband Richard. They were married July 20, 1953 and were married sixty-four years.

Joan was employed by the Nevada Journal, and the United States Postal Service. She worked for the postal service twenty-nine years and was the postmaster in Maxwell for fourteen of those years. She and her husband farmed in the Maxwell area.

Education was very important to her, and she ended every letter while her children were in college with the admonition to "Stay in school." She was a proud member of the Grammar Police. She was happiest with her nose in a book, and a cat on her lap.

She did not wish to have a funeral, and a family interment ceremony will be held in the spring.

Memorials may be directed to the Maxwell Community Center, the Ames Public Library, the Story County Animal Shelter, or to a charity of your choice.

Condolences may be sent to Jeanne Mohler, 1280 Castle Court, Golden Valley, MN 55427.
