I met Joanie in 1994, shortly after her and my dad married. She was always so welcoming and accepting me with open arms. Even after my dad passed in 1996, Joanie wanted to make sure i known my Nielsen family. I would come visit every summer and Christmas break. She even took me to a Nielsen family reunion. Joanie's caught lit up a room. Her famous words "too cute" and "cool beans" always put a smile on my face. Joanie had a passion for travel. On a couple of occasions I was lucky to go with her. After our trip to S. America I realized my passion for travel, and decided this was exactly what i want to do in life. Joanie taught me a lot in life, I truly looked up to her and there person she was. Joanie was more then a step mom, but another mother to me. She will always be in my heart and part of me.

My Dearest Momma,
I light this candle for you with all my love and respect. I Thank You and Daddy for bringing me into the family and into this world in so many ways! Though my pathway into the Vernon family was far from the conventional way, both You and Daddy treated me as if I were born to you as an infant, and even though You adopted me at 16, You both made sure to pack my remaining teen years at home with as much love, support, and guidance as any loving parents do when their children are born to them the natural way. You and Daddy literally saved my life , showed me what love was, and that it truly was okay to trust again. There are so many things that I wanted to tell You & Daddy, but by the time I had finally learned how to say the things I was too afraid to say as a kid, time ran out, and sadly, now you're both gone, and it's too late to say!! I promised you that I would be the last to hold you as you went to the light, and I hope you know that I kept that promise! Momma, I Miss You So Very Much, and with each passing moment, my heart breaks all over again!! You and Daddy were my whole world, and now that you both are gone, I'm very lost!! There aren't words enough to express just how much I Love, and Miss You !! Thank You for allowing me into your heart and family!! You were such an amazing Mom, and I'm so grateful to have been chosen to be your daughter!! I Love and Miss You Momma so very, very much!! I light this candle in your loving memory Momma, and pray that your journey into the SummerLand fields is both a smooth and pleasant one. I Love You Momma!!
Blessed Be
