Joan Tscherne Obituary

Joan M. Tscherne

Joan M. (Waryu) Tscherne, age 62, passed away on July 13, 2018 in the loving embrace of her family. Joan was born to Jim and Jane (McKeithan) Waryu on March 2, 1956 in Oregon, Ohio. They say life is not about those two dates, but rather the "dash" in between them, and what a dash it was! Joan grew up in a Hungarian neighborhood in East Toledo, and was always very proud of her Hungarian heritage. She graduated from Clay High School in 1974. Her favorite stories from those years featured hanging out with her many friends. On January 7, 1982, Joan married Tony Tscherne. She soon realized her life's passion: motherhood. Tony and Joan together raised two handsome and talented sons, Eric and Anthony. A woman of great loyalty and devotion, she lived her life for her family. To say Joan was a proud mother is quite the understatement. Her boys' passion was her passion. Joan was the ultimate "boy mom" before that term was a thing! Inherently fulfilling the role of "cool mom," Joan recognized her sons' love of music early on. While other toddlers were watching Sesame Street, Eric and Anthony were rocking out to MTV. Their family excursions included rock concerts and shopping trips to Peeler Music. Nothing made her happier than listening to her sons play music. Her door was always open to their friends and her basement hosted more teenage rock shows than she could count. She was their roadie, groupie, photographer, and biggest fan. As every one of their friends would tell you, "Mrs. Tscherne was the best!" In 2015, Joan found something she loved even more than motherhood: grandmotherhood, as she welcomed another boy into her family, her "Pumpkin," Ryan Anthony. Joan was also a huge Michigan fan, a margarita enthusiast, and she made the most delicious chicken paprikash.

Joan is survived by her husband, Tony; sons, Eric and Anthony (Jamie); grandson, Ryan; mother, Jane; sisters, Debbie (Roger) Biddle and Susie (James) Antonelli; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her father, Jim; and brother, Bobby. The family would like to give many thanks for the outpour of love and support throughout Joan's two-year battle with triple negative breast cancer, as well as the incredible care she received from her amazing family and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Donations can be made in Joan's name to The Victory Center, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or directly to her family. Egglesont-Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home is assisting the family.

We met and talked with Joan only once or twice (when our sons were playing together in their band), but it was obvious that she loved life and lived hers to the fullest. Such a sweet lady!

Condolences to your family, Anthony and Eric, but the love between you never leaves and she now rests in peace.

To the Tscherne Family,
I worked with Joan for many years, and I remember her talking about her other babies, her dogs. They seemed to bring her as much joy as her family. May I offer my deepest sympathy for your loss. She won't be forgotten. Many hugs.

As sad as we are at the loss of our sister, I can only feel grateful for Tony, Eric, Anthony&Jamie, and Ryan for giving Joanie a great life full of love. I know that it wasn't always an easy road but in the end, she was surrounded by the love that sustained her. Tony, you gave my sister all the love, care and attention she needed to help her leave us peacefully. My sister raised wonderful sons who now have to carry on without her, but she is always a part of them and I know they will speak of her often to little Ryan. Bless all of you. Rest in Heaven Joanie.
