Trevor, I was going through boxes of old papers and found letter and card from Joan, as well as a picture of you. It felt good to have her so close again.

It's hard to believe a year has gone by without being able to call Joan. Many times I have wanted to share something - a book, a joke, whatever - with her, only to realize I can't. I miss her.

This description does a wonderful job of describing the many facets of Joan. She used her talents to support so many good causes, from Friends of Ray School to the Art Institute, where, surely, she attended more educational presentations than just about any other Chicagoan ... and recruited many of her friends to attend as well. I was one of the beneficiaries of her enthusiasms and am fortunate for those opportunities. Many friends ... and Chicago institutions... will miss her.

I remember so well the years when Trevor and our son Joe were adolescents and Joan helped organize the MOB (Mothers of Boys) group that would meet on a Saturday morning once a month to share our experiences. What a great support group that was and what a wonderful friend Joan was.

I wish for the sake of Trevor and Effie and the rest of us that our ride together could have lasted longer, but I'll always be grateful for all we shared.
