I just found out about Joanna´s passing since we hadn´t been in touch recently. We were neighbors in Chappaqua for a number of years and we continued a relationship after I moved. There were many dinners that continued for hours with philosophical discussions. She was a very kind hearted person and always had a smile to share. She will be missed.

When I entered Westchester Community College in the Fall of 1995, Joanna, was the first person I met, as I enrolled in the math jump start program. I still remember nervously entering the Academic Support Center, and she came over with a smile and shook my hand. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. I know she touched countless lives. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, and may she rest in eternal peace.

My heart was broken to learn of Jo's passing. She will always be one of my most cherished colleagues-one of my favorite people-- on this campus, and on this planet. Joanna touched so many of us at WCC, whether as the ESL/Reading Coordinator at the Academic Support Center, teaching for the English and Reading departments, on the College´s Developmental Education Advisory Council, or on the Union´s Executive Committee (under two presidents), especially in her years of leadership and work on our Scholarship Committee. Anyone fortunate enough to know her knows what a loss this is. There really are no words; she was simply, as one colleague put it, "beautiful in every way."

Joanna was one of the kindest women I have ever known. When I first came to WCC in 2001, she was one of the first that I collaborated with. She was an ideal colleague who grew to become a friend. Her wealth of knowledge and experience were vital to me in my early years at WCC, but I also learned that she was the easiest person in the world to talk to; she just radiated thoughtfulness, kindness, and empathy. There is now a Joanna-sized hole in the fabric of the WCC community that we are painfully and slowly trying to stitch together. I take comfort in knowing just how many lives Joanna affected over her life and career, mine included. She may be gone, but her imprint, her essence, is still here. She lives in her family, her friends, her colleagues, and every student who ever came through the Academic Support Center and had the good fortune of meeting her. Rest in peace, Jo.

Even more beautiful than her appearance, was her heart. Generous in thought and in action, Joanna was always full of love and giving. She produced and raised two amazing children who are so loved by their family and friends. Her legacy will live on in all the kindness we do for others and in the retelling of stories about our times shared with her. Rest in peace, Joanna.

Joanna was a very special member of our family, Through the years, she has always been loving, kind and genuinely glad to hear from us. over the years our lives have taken us to different places and no matter how long between visits, but time and distance faded away. It was a joy for us to see our family grow and see cousins become friends. Her memory will always be a blessing.

It is indeed a sad loss. I have known Jo for over 61 years and seen her in all phases of her life. My memories only put a smile on my face. She will always be special to all who knew her.
