Joanne Marie Devitt was the girl right next door to me in the barracks of Camp King in Oberusel, West Germany in 1980. She was bright and beautiful, and the most creative young lady I had the good fortune to spend time with. I regret to say that after she separated from the U.S Army, Military Police Corps, we lost touch.

This morning with my first cup of coffee a smile appeared on my face as I recalled our vivacious friendship, and miraculously, I suddenly remembered exactly how to spell her full name and Googled it. I was happy to see that she was still in Quincy, and very sad to learn she had passed away.

I want to offer my most sincere condolences to her family. I wish Jo and I could get together right now and write some songs like we used to do on lazy summer afternoons in the barracks. I truly miss her.

Sincerely

I only heard the [sad] news today. As young girls we worked together in Dietary @ QCH. She worked hard, she played hard....but there was always time for some fun. Her laugh was contagious, her heart was enormous. Buzzy Dear.....you will be missed. Keep those Angels laughin'! You're in lots of good company.

I have always loved hearing about my various cousins from my mother and Joanne was always described as very ladylike and polite. I had only met her for brief periods of time but she did indeed live up to her wonderful reputation each time we spoke. I am sorry that I will not be able to attend her memorial service.
