Joanne Willes Obituary
June 4, 1940 - November 23, 2024
Joanne was born in Oakland, California to Vincel and Jennie (Amenta) Biehn. She grew up surrounded by her large Italian family including 10 close cousins. She attended Bishop O'Dowd High School. She was very talented in many areas. She was a great cook and could spontaneously prepare a gourmet meal for visitors. She would host Thanksgiving for her family and prepare a meal for over 30 people. She could transform a dreary, neglected house through tireless hard work and vision into a beautiful home. Joanne and her husband, Ted, both worked at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and enjoyed many sunny days on their yacht on the Delta with The Ox Bow Yacht Club. Joanne is survived by her 3 children, John (Diane) Bowers, Jess Bowers and June (Mike) Porter, 4 grandchildren and 3 step grandsons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted, and her daughter in law, Paula.

Losing a loved one is never easy, but since you left my heart aches and I am reminded to never take even a simple phone call for granted again.
As I listen to the voicemails saved I remember how lucky we all were to have experienced your spit fire energy, your Michelin star worthy meals, your hilarious quips, your effortless class, impeccable style, cozy home, and love for all of us.
You will not be forgotten.
This is not goodbye.

While I did not have the pleasure of meeting Joanne before her passing, I heard of her beautiful spirit and personality through her son Jess and her grandson David. Through them, she became familiar with me and the child David and I are about to welcome into this world. I feel very honored that she knew of me, and shared in our excitement for our expected baby, even during her final days.
Based on the lovely family she left behind, I know she was a beautiful person and was thoroughly loved and taken care of. Blessings to all of her family.

I loved all the Christmases when we spent with you and Ted. I have wonderful memories of the holidays with you too. Yes, the Chicken cacciatore was perfect. This picture is from Thanksgiving 2019. I miss you and Ted very much. Love you grandma, David.

I´ll miss you grandma. I will miss all the meals especially the chicken cacciatore. You will be missed but never forgotten. I´m glad you´re with Ted and Mom. Rest in peace. I love you.
