Mr. Frierson,
It seems only yesterday that i walked to the school and talked to you about the rest of my plans after high school. When I'd heard it on the news i was in disbelief because you'd taught me so much. It brings tears to my eyes writing this because i know that i won't be able joke and laugh with you about the crazy students that you must'vehad this year or just to talk because you were always my mentor with a straight forward truth. You never walked around NOT smiling and i believe that's where i get it from because you always told me to smile and keep going no natter the circumstance and that's what I'll keep doing. I know Heaven is a fine place to be, but it'd be nice to hear a "Hey Megs !
-Your favorite student,
Meghan

I never met Benji, but knowing his family and that he worked as a teacher is more than I need to know.
This world needs more people like B Young: People who share their gift. People who bring joy. People who care for others. People who inspire and teach.
Happy Birthday to Benji. I hope the new website brings your life and gifts to others to inspire them to serve this world similarly.
May the good Lord shine his light on all of Joe's family and friends today and fill their hearts with joy and fond memories.

I was shocked to hear of your lost. The pain of your lost will diminish as you reflect on the results of your training that was exhibited in his life and contributions to so many young adolescents that will also mold their lives for years to come. Please remember that he is at peace and in a better place. You may have lost a son, but his spirit and memories will bring you peace as well as happiness as you continue to live your life. You have my sincere condolences.

Even though we were colleagues for only a year, I am deeply saddened by your passing. After reading your obituary, I never realized how much we had in common: age, music, and social studies. May G-d grant you peace and paradise and forgiveness for the sins committed in this life. May G-d grant your family understanding. Rest in Peace.

To Mrs. Frierson, my high school biology and science fair teacher, and the family of Joe IV, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of a great young man. It appears that the apple did not fall far from the tree, and he too served as mentor and a catalyst for young minds to enjoy learning. Know that God has him now, and that the seeds Joe planted will bloom and be his legacy on this earth. May God strengthen and keep you all. Your C.L. Harper student and Soror

Joe you've been my friend since 2008. To know my phone won't ever ring again and I hear you say Hey Dillz is too much. You touched so many lives. I remember the first day of new teacher orientation for TAPP in Clayco we met and were partners the whole way through. Although we were there to teach children you taught me something very important in life. You taught me to never give up on my dreams. To never stop working towards what you want no matter what. You followed your dreams and sewed dreams into many. Thank you for being a friend Joe. Thank you for being you. Bravo.

To The Frierson Family,
My heart goes out to you and hope that the LORD will strengthen you during this time. Joe IV came from a strong family of dedicated educators, one being his mom who adored him. I had the priviledge of know the family through her. She taught me at C L Harper High, then in 1996 we became co-workers at Southside High School and found later to be neighbors in Riverdale. She has always been a joy and a person that loved family and love education. JOE will be missed by all but his memories will carry on forever. I recently had to endure the same as Mrs. Frierson and I will be there to support her cause I truly understand what it means to lose a child thru a sensless act.

It must have been one of the best things about growing up next door to the Frierson family... My friend Benji. He smiled a lot, laughed a lot, talked a lot, and played around with me a lot. Moving away and going to school meant I wouldn't get to walk to the park with a friend or meet up at path we had made in the trees between our houses. But it would mean leaving, knowing my little brother and friend might not be there because it would be his turn to go away to school and make new friends, who would love him as much as everyone of us. It was just days ago, my dad called me to ask me when was the last time I saw Benji. I had been looking at pictures of us playing around in the backyard. I thought of looking him up on facebook but I thought I might as well stop by the house. My favorite thoughts of knowing the family have stayed with me and I guess the wonderful smiling faces were just so close to my heart that I waited too long. I am heartbroken over what this means to your family. My families prayers are with yours always.

Not only did I have the privilege of working with Joe at Clarkston High School, but I also worked with his father in Atlanta Public Schools. Joe followed in his father's footsteps. He made American History truly exciting! He taught "out of the box!" Joe was a caring, phenomenal teacher who was loaded with personality. I am saddened and shocked. His is a huge loss for his family, the community, and his future students. My heart goes out to his family.
