Joe Ann Goodwin

Joe Ann (Hone) Goodwin passed away on July 25, 2017 peacefully in her home after bravely battling ovarian cancer for over two years.
Joe Ann Goodwin was born in Pocatello, Idaho on Dec. 5, 1945 to Edith Ann and Vivian R. Hone. Joe Ann grew up in Blackfoot, Idaho and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1963. She married Philip Terry Goodwin on Feb. 20, 1964. They lived in Blackfoot where they raised three children.
Joe Ann earned her beautician's license soon after high school graduation and did hair for many years. In the 1970s and early '80s, she was a well-respected substitute teacher in the Blackfoot School District. Joe Ann earned her LPN degree in 1979 from Idaho State University, graduating at the top of her class. She worked as a nurse at Bingham Memorial Hospital for 20 years, most of them in obstetrics.
Joe Ann was a prolific gardener. Her yard was always beautiful and full of colorful flowers. She could get houseplants to thrive and bloom even when other people had failed.
Family was the most important part of Joe Ann's life. She was always there to support the family in any way she could, often offering valuable advice and guidance. She took on many volunteer roles in her childrens' activities, including Girl Scouts, 4-H, Job's Daughters, softball, and baseball. She was delighted with her grandchildren and loved hearing about every aspect of their lives. Her favorite activities with them included decorating Christmas cookies and playing cards. She was a good seamstress, sewing and mending clothes and making blankets. Every member of the family has at least one treasured quilt personally designed and lovingly tied by Mom/Grandma.
Joe Ann was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Hone. She is survived by her husband Terry, brother Dean Hone of Salt Lake City, and children, Allyson (Shane) Christensen of Salt Lake City, Marcia (Quint) Lindsay of Blackfoot, and Douglas (Christa) Goodwin of Blackfoot. She had 6 grandchildren, Nick Christensen, Ben Christensen, Tyler Lindsay, Ashley Goodwin, Rebecca Goodwin, and Erika Goodwin.
Joe Ann will be dearly missed, but will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family will meet with friends at a casual visitation on Wednesday, Aug. 2 6-8 p.m. at the Blackfoot Senior Center, 20 East Pacific Street. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bingham Crisis Center or to the Blackfoot branch of the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICAA).
