I was 8 yrs old in 1957 and the Lions won the Championship. Listened on radio to all the games. Born in Detroit and have been a fan ever since. Today I read of Mr Schmidt dying. I was a fan of his defensive play throughout his playing career. Loved to watch him as a leader and as a player. He solidified our defense with Alex, Darren, and Roger.

Mr. Joe Schmidt was an NFL linebacker and coach for the Detroit Lions whose storied career led him to 10 consecutive Pro Bowls and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Joe Schmidt had a great career in football, broadcasting and in his community. May you find comfort in your wealth of fond memories together with Mr. Joe Schmidt. May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved one show how much your life was touched by him. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Mr. Joe Schmidt. We will never forget that Mr. Joe Schmidt was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, what a tremendous goal and accomplishment.

Joe Schmidt's name belongs in every conversation that is in regard to the greatest Middle Linebackers who have ever played the game. I suggest viewing his Pro Football Hall of Fame page, which provides a fine tribute to his greatness.
