View Video Tribute Joe W. "J.W." Hargrove, 73, farmer and ironworker with Local 492, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at his residence on Gene Fitzgerald Road. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Theodore Durham officiating. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be extended at oakesandnichols.com. A native of Williamson County, he was the son of the late Ernest Hargrove and Hattie Inman Hargrove. During his early life, he attended Fairview Church of Christ. Mr. Hargrove was a dedicated and loving caregiver to his wife of 49 years, the former Patricia Fitzgerald and devoted to his son, grandchildren, sister, and close friends. He loved farming and tending to his cattle. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Joey (fiancée Diane Griggs) Hargrove of Columbia; sister, Louise Hargrove of the Boston-Theta Community; granddaughter, Alexie Hargrove of Waynesboro; step-grandchildren, Charlie Mosley, Keith Mosley, and Brandon Mosley, all of Waynesboro; niece, Jennifer Hargrove of Columbia; and great-niece, Elizabeth Brown of Columbia. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Hargrove and Milton Hargrove. Serving as active pallbearers are Brent Lemay, David Fitzgerald, Dustin Fitzgerald, Charlie Mosley, William Mosley, and Brandon Mosley. Honorary pallbearers include Colton Griggs, Douglas Boshers, Heath Brown, Travis Brown, Claude Fitzgerald, Local 492 Ironworkers, and McDonald's Coffee Drinkers.
