Joe Robert Wilson

Elberton - Mr. Joe Robert Wilson, age 85, of the Rock Branch Community in Elberton, died on Sunday, July 2, 2023, at his residence. Mr. Wilson was born in the Ruckersville Community in Elberton on July 18, 1937, he was a son of the late Guy Wilson, Sr. and Helen Alexander Wilson. He graduated from Mars Hill College, Baylor University (BS), and received a J.D. from the University of Georgia. As an attorney, he served as a civil rights specialist for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Later in his career, he worked for the Army, retiring from the United States Army Forces Command. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoyed many games with family and friends. Like his father, he raised English Shepherds in his retirement. Surviving are his children: Robert Wilson (Lee Cobb) of Elberton and Jean Wilson Tate (Jimmy) of Atlanta; grandsons: Alexander Tate, Matthew Tate, and John Tate; and nephew and niece: James Gregory Wilson (Laurie) and Dawn Pryor Day (Jason). In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shelby Jean Pryor Wilson; and brother, Guy William "Bill" Wilson, Jr. A memorial service celebrating Joe's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 15 at New Bethel United Methodist Church.
