On Thursday, January 17, 2013. Beloved husband of Isabel Alcoff; beloved father of Celia (Richard) Brown and Benjamin (Cara) Alcoff; brother of Edward Alcoff; grandfather of Alexander Brown, Jonah Brown, and Avery Alcoff. With appreciation to his caregiver Christine Pennington. Dr. Alcoff practiced family medicine in Squirrel Hill for 25 years. He was also a retired Captain in the US Naval Reserves having served for 30 years. Services at RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC., 5509 Centre Avenue, Shadyside, on Sunday at 10 a.m. NO PRIOR VISITATION. Interment Homewood Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Joel M. Alcoff Endowment Fund c/o JCC, 5738 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15217, or Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 333 E Carson St., #441e, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

Dear Alcoff Family, I have just learned of the passing of your loved one and wanted to extend my sincere condolences. I worked with him at Highmark and was always greeted with a warm smile and spirit. He was always concerned about others and always made me feel welcomed in any environment. Heaven has truly gained an angel. He will be missed, but I know that some day I will see him again. God bless and keep you all.

Isabel, Benji and Celia, So sorry to hear of Joel's death. He fought a long hard battle and kept pushing for a healthier life. May you remember the good times you had together. He could be very funny sometimes! I will miss him even though I had not spend much time with him after we graduated from college! Isabel,
I was very sorry to hear of Dr. Alcoff's passing and was glad I was able to attend his services on Sunday. Going from your papergirl to babysitter and then finally working with him in the office was a great experience. I have to tell you, he truly taught me everything I know about healthcare and he is the reason I became a nurse. He was a wonderful teacher and I will never forget everything I learned from him. Please give my sympathies to Benjamin and Celia as well, they have turned into wonderful adults themselves.
