Joel-
I have thought about writing in this guest book for a month now but have been unable to express my feeling into words. I understand now after a month that there is no positive words of encouragement that I can say to make me, or our family feel any better. I want you to know that I love you very much. As I told you many times you were always my favorite cousin. I feel so lucky to have had you in my life. Please know that I will always love you and will never forget all the wonderful memories we all shared. Stay with us all, wrap your arms around the ones who love you. I find comfort in knowing that you will do everything you can to keep our family together and to keep us strong during this time of sorrow. You are truly irreplaceable, I look forward to seeing you again someday you better be waiting with open arms.

With Love,

Courtney Dann

Rick, Terri, Stephanie, Jon and Paige,

I have thought about Joel every single day since his passing. I wanted to let you know that you are all still in my thoughts and prayers. I love you ALL so much!

Joel,
I miss you! Your hugs were welcoming and warm. I wish I could have just one more. Growing up, you looked after me. I was just a tag-along in pigtails trying to keep up with the boys- and you always included me. You were the coolest older cousin and I looked up to you. I still do!

For those that loved Joel:

Lots of nice things are said about people after they pass. Sometimes people overlook the negatives aspects during this time for whatever reason. This is not possible with Joel because there were no negatives in my mind.

To say that Joel was one of the best human beings ever to walk this earth is not an overstatement or ingenuine at all.

When I heard the news, I thought back to Joel and our experiences together and realized something... we didn't do much together. We didn't really hang out with the same people or go to the same parties. So, why do I feel like I've lost a close friend?

The answer is simple: Joel made you feel loved. He was always genuinely happy and positive in his interactions with you. You felt important and cared for when he was around you.

I know Joel is in a better place right now, but we aren't in a better place without him. This will hurt but if we can take his example of love and positivity into our lives, we can make it through and we will be better for it and he will live on through us honoring what he stood for.

My sympathies to his family and wife. May God bless you with healing during this difficult time and may God bless those around them to help support them.

To the Closson's:

Every time I saw Joel, I was reminded how there couldn't be a nicer guy in the world. He always treated me as if I was a close friend, even if I hadn't seen him in a few years. I appreciated that very much. Joel will be missed.

To Joel's family and friends,
Where to begin?? Joel had the biggest heart of anyone we know. And his love for Steph was second to none. We should all look at Joel and think about how we can learn from what he was... he was truly inspiring to all with his kindness and caring. Joel, we love you and miss you already. Watch over us all!

Love you,

Brett and Amanda Nelson

Closson Clan,
I was deeply saddened when I learned about Joel's passing. Joel was a kind, loving, selfless man who always put others before himself. Having Joel as a friend meant so much to me, even though we would go for long periods of time without seeing one another, we were always able to pick up right where we left off. I will never forget his big smile, bear hugs, and our long talks. Joel you will be missed, but your memory will live on through all of us….

With Love,
Kristin

I gotta say, the year we all spent together was one of the best. You are one of my favorite people to hear about and it is a tragedy that I didn't get to see you again. Good luck up there, thanks for all the great times, we'll get around to Kung Fu 2 one of these days...

Closson Family-

It is with great remorse that I sit here to empathize over your loss. It is always difficult to lose a loved one, but it is a tragedy to lose a man of Joel's caliber. To say that Joel touched the lives of many people would be an understatement. His heart, soul, and compassion was visible to all through his wonderful smile. I have been blessed to have Joel be part of my life - from the playground of Sacajawea, the soccer fields of Jason Lee, the cafeteria at River and on up to an apartment in Bellingham, Joel always provided fond memories. My heart goes out to all those whom he touched.

Joel, although you have been lost, you will never be forgotten. May we all follow the path of kindness which you laid down.

Friends and family of Joel,

Joel was a one of a kind individual who cared more than most people know how. If everyone who knew Joel displays the love and respect that Joel did every day, his life will continue to have a profound effect on our family, friends, and community. Wear a genuine smile, apologize with sincerity, and ask how people are and truly listen to and care about their response. If you do these things every day, you will honor Joel’s life in the most meaningful way possible-by continuing to do the things that he did best. We love you Joel. We will miss you greatly.

With love,

Joel left us so suddenly I didn't have a chance to express a few thoughts to him before his departure. I know in my heart,
" Joel's Gone Fishin' "

Joel,
Never in my worst nightmare did I think you would beat me to the finish line. But since you did, find the great fishing holes, don't catch ALL the fish, and save some fish and fish stories for me when I get there.

As the frigid air squeezes the warmth from everything it touches

And the healthy soil turns into ice as we fall into winters clutches

The days of sun seem so far away like a distant memory

So we cling together like birds in a nest cause survival is our only neccessity

Times of celebration sometimes turn in to times when we must mourn

A loss of faith and a daily prayer leave us with emotions tested and torn

My nowhere may not be the same as yours just like my pain doesn't equal your pain

I don't know how you feel and I don't understand and I don't know if there is a lesson to gain

They say the night is darkest just before dawn and winter has just begun

But I smile at the light that I see when I think of your first born son

A friend till the end a brother like no other and a husband who loved his wife

God had a plan when he created your miracle so forever we'll celebrate his life

Best Wishes from the Frimpong Family

To the Clossons and Claytons,
My heart goes out to all of you for this tremendous loss. I am sorry I didn't know Joel better. Working with Jon is and has been a pleasure and I had hoped the three of us could get better acquainted through fishing and being outdoors, something I know Joel loved to do. I knew Joel to say hello to when he was at Lakeshore and he was always friendly, helpful and just a kind and big spirit. Please accept condolences from me and my family.

Stephanie,Terri,Rick and Jon,

The common themes in the entries are what a wonderful, selfless, helpful,
smiling, kind person Joel was. We agree with every comment that has been written. It reminds us that it isn't the number of breaths we take in life,
but the moments that take our breath away that makes life special. Joel was gifted with the ability to create moments in people's lives that were positively memorable. He was our own bit of Heaven on Earth, offering so many wonderful things to others.

You are all in our prayers. We hope you can find peace during these difficult days and take comfort in the memories of an excellent son, husband, brother and friend.

Dear Closson Family,
There is nothing I can say, but I am incredibly sorry to hear of the loss of Joel. I knew Joel all throughout high school. Looking back I remember, as does everyone else, that he was one of the most genuinely kind people that I had ever met. He was friends with everyone at the school. I always knew it was going to be a good day when I saw Joel's smile.
I pray for all of Joel's family and friends at this time of loss. I am sure it is the most difficult thing you will ever have to endure in this life time.
God Bless.....

Dear Closson Family,

After hearing of the passing of a great man, my heart sank. I have many fond memories of Joel throughout the years. He was the one constant in school I knew could make me smile, feel comforted and loved. With a quick glance and smile, or a simple "Hello," I knew no matter how the day was going, Joel was there. He had a kindred spirit that has touched my life. Even though we lost contact after graduation, he always had a spot in my heart, and still will.

Please know you are all in everyone's thoughts and prayers. Joel has touched so many lives. He may not be with us on Earth today, but he will never be forgotten.

Joel, you will be missed and cherished. Thank you for blessing my life.

Dear Closson Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Joel's passing. I fondly remember him as a small boy running up and down the soccer field smiling, having a great time and always cheering on his teammates. He grew into a fine man that we were proud to know. Your family is in my prayers.

To Stephanie, The Closson's and the Claytons,

Joel was the kind of person we all wish we could be. He always stayed true to himself and always encouraged others to be the best they could be. Ive never come across a more unselfish and giving person. I'll never forget the long talks we used to have at the gym years ago about life and love. I'm so proud that Joel was able to find that love in Stephanie and I'm so proud to have been his friend. You're all in my prayers.

Dear Closson Family,

Joel will always be someone I remember fondly for his absolute kindness, genuine heart and friendly spirit. His compassionate way with people left such a long-lasting impression on me. I was quiet and shy in high school, but Joel knew just how to ease me out of my shell by simply being the great person he was. My thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with you all.

In the kids yearbook, they were asked to submit their life motto to be printed underneath their senior picture. Joel wrote "See through the heart of people and be nice." He lived every second of his life by this. Joel was an angel here on earth and touched so many, many people. We're all blessed to have Joel in our hearts and lives.

Dear Clossons,
Joel was an absolutely amazing person and I've never known someone with such a kind spirit. While we didn't stay in touch after high school, it was always a comfort to know he was in this world and affecting other peoples' lives for the better. No matter where life takes me I'll go there knowing I had the best sixth-grade boyfriend anyone has ever had.

To Joel's wife and family,

My sympathies go out to all of you during this time. Joel was the kindest person I have ever known. His actions came in putting everyone else before himself and he will always be remembered. It was a priviledge to grow up with him and to know him for all of these years. I hope that his memory continues to inspire everyone to put others first in life before thinking of themselves as through his own actions he conveyed this every chance he had. I will always remember him in the best of my thoughts.
