JOEL EUGENE "GENE" MARANS

Eugene was our dear gentle Butte, Montana friend through grade and high school. He was an inspiration with his education goals and desire to make the big time in the world of law. In his early teens he already had a home office. His homes, with Anne Marie,in DC and Hong Kong,were always open to his visiting friends. He had collection friends from all over the world. 'Gene' was a Montana treasure that will be missed and remembered fondly by all.

Gene has been such a good friend for more than 50 years! He will continue to be an important part of my life as long as I live.

My family and I are profoundly grateful for the privilege of knowing Gene and for his influence on our lives.

We're so very sorry for the loss of Gene.

Sorry to hear of Gene's passing. We especially enjoyed the family reunions and Bar/Bat Mitvahs in Butte.

We have lost a loyal and inspiring friend from our school days in Butte and a life long friend as we made our way through our careers and adventures as parents. Gene gave his best to all in his many associations and we will all remember him deep fondness.

Dear Family...There was never enough time to really know Gene, but if there was, I'd still want more. His gentle, generous nature was truly appreciated.
His father, Ed and my father, Emil, bothers, were wonderfully creative merchants from Butte, Montana. Can you imagine!
And Gene kept up their intelligent spirit...crossing lot's of important borders in a whole other worldly way...

Gene was a wonderful and giving Uncle in many ways. He and Ann Marie were always such positive figures in my growing up and did so much to expand my horizons and open me up to new experiences and new opportunities. They supported me in my dancing, my education and in my adult life. I am so grateful to Gene. I admire his work ethic, his love of his family and his ability to achieve such greatness in his life. I also love how humble he was and how even with all his brilliance he would still get lost, lose track of time and run late. He was real, he was kind and he was truly an inspiration to so many. The world is definitely a better place due to his time here and I can only hope that someone will think the same of my time here one day. Thank you Gene. Rest in peace and know you are truly loved.

Since the first time of meeting Gene and Anne Marie, they always made our family welcome to all of the events in Butte even though we were not family. This takes kindness and an open heart. You will be missed Gene.

The Marans family was my home away from home during much of the 1990s. I had a seat at their table anytime I wanted, and they made me feel as if I were a part of their family. I was able to share in of their celebrations, such as John's bar mitzvah in Montana, and they were with me in mine; Gene represented the family at my wedding in Austin, TX in 2012. My heart is heavy today. I am unable to be there in person but I am with you in spirit. I am so sorry for your loss.

Gene was a patient mentor and a good friend. I will miss him very much.

Gene, you are indeed well-loved, perhaps the best and final measure of any man. You will be forever in our hearts. John, Margaret, Dan and Will.

I was very, very sorry to learn of the passing of Gene Marans. I knew Gene from his many years as a board member of the Sabre Foundation. He was a kind and thoughful human being. Tania Vitvitsky
