Joel MATTLEMAN Obituary
Dr. Mattleman was born in Northeast Philadelphia, graduated from Washington High school. He received a baseball scholarship to St. Joseph's College graduating in 1969. He attended medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following his residency in Lancaster, PA he entered the field of emergency medicine. Joel was one of the founding members of the Chester County Emergency Medical System and practiced on the Emergency Medicine staff at Chester County Hospital. He later became Director of Student Health at West Chester University, retiring in 2007.
He committed in his retirement to volunteer for Jewish Family Service of Atlantic County, honored to receive the Volunteer of the Year award. He loved to fish, to cook, to dine and travel with friends and family.
Dr. Joel was a quiet and gentle presence to all who knew him. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to synagogue services at Congregation Beth Judah, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor, NJ on Thursday at 11 A.M. Interment will follow at Beth Kehillah Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. And Mrs. Joel Mattleman.

Kate, I am so sorry to hear of Joel's passing. Although I only worked with him ( and you) for a short time at CCH ER, I had such respect for him as a physician. He was kind and caring to all he encountered. Peace and blessings. Cheish the memories.

I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember his spirit. Growing up in the ER as a kid everyone there was like family. Kate, Seamus, & family:
I'm deeply saddened to hear of Joel's passing. I have such fond memories of him and what a thoughtful and truly kind soul he was. I always will remember him smiling so big and getting so passionate when him and I would discuss medicine. My life was better for knowing him.
