Some people come back to mind and it’s been a lot of years since me and Joel were buddies in high school before i read most of these names of loved ones mentioned or places he was heading but Joel was a friend to not be forgotten anywhere on the Cape. People somehow connected with him in a way I admired and he took pleasure in anything he did without fear with me more reserved but it allowed him to explore the best and probably the worst of the world too if that’s where he ended up but he always made the best of things. For a guy who lived so free he just about outlived me by 10 years anyway so for all those kids that live like they are truly free with nothing to lose don’t try to tame them cause they’ll be the ones protecting your country and having a family that i was too timid to have despite outliving him by another 15 years. I wish i could have kept in touch those 10 years after i left home to travel where he created a life for himself and his family with a legacy to leave behind that I hope i can do. I am sorry to hear about the loss of not having him but enjoy the memories i am sure and hope he created for you all like he did when we we spent time together. Legacy would be a word i think he’d like the sound of with his patented *smile* afterward.

Hello, I know some time has passed, but had just found my basic training yearbook from FT Leonard Wood and came across Joel’s picture and google sent me here. We were bunk mates in basic training; battle buddies. We went to different AIT but both ended up, coincidentally, stationed in Hohenfels. He in the 94th and I in 1-4. I’m terribly sorry to learn of his passing. I have nothing but fond memories of Joel and his wicked accent. Not sure if anyone will ever see this, but my thoughts are with you all. Kevin

Joel,
There are no words to express the sorrow I feel when I learned that you had died. The emptiness and pain is something that will fade in time, but never go away! You will be missed everyday for the rest of my life! May you rest in peace until we meet again!
I love you and am so proud of you for the good things you accomplished in your life.
Your legacy will be further accomplished by your children.

Love,
Mom
