Joel David Wilmsmeyer

Joel David Wilmsmeyer, aged 78, of Crestline, CA, went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2024. Born on January 10, 1946, Joel's life was marked by a deep devotion to his Christian faith, a generous spirit, and a kind heart.

Joel graduated from West Belleville High School and spent much of his professional career at Sigma Corporation/Nappco, where he worked from 1984 until his retirement in 2014. His commitment extended beyond his professional life into his service with the US Navy, reflecting a steadfast dedication to his country.

Joel got to see the world during his service in the Navy, and made a life long friend (although some would call him a partner in crime), Dave Evans. After the Navy Joel moved to California, where he lived most of his life, eventually retiring in Crestline, in the mountains he so loved.

Joel was lucky enough to have two epic love stories in his life. The first was with his wife of 52 years, Christine. They had many adventures and made many memories during their years together. The second was his wife of just 5 months, Rae, whom he reconnected with after the passing of his first wife. He was well loved by his four children and they are grateful for the memories and for all that he taught them.

An active member of the Assembly of God Church, Joel lived his faith through both his actions and his commitments. He was eloquent and well spoken, especially when it came to his love of the Lord. His interests were diverse and deeply ingrained in his character. A life-long car enthusiast, Joel not only raced cars in his younger years but also worked on them throughout his life, enjoying both mechanical work and bodywork. His driving skills were not limited to automobiles; he was also an avid motorcycle rider, riding street bikes from age 15 to age 65, and dirt bikes until he was 70. Joel could fix just about anything, a testament to his patience and skill. Joel celebrated 48 years of sobriety prior to his passing, a huge life long accomplishment.

Joel is survived by his loving wife, Rae Beale-Wilmsmeyer; children, Justin Wilmsmeyer, Tiffany Huntley, Joshua Wilmsmeyer, and David Wilmsmeyer; son-in-law, Mark Huntley; daughter-in-law, Destiny Wilmsmeyer; grandchildren, Joseph Huntley, Emily Huntley, Jonah Wilmsmeyer, and Mia Wilmsmeyer; and sister, Joy Wilmsmeyer-Black. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Wilmsmeyer; and his parents, Earl and Vera Wilmsmeyer.

A celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for January 11, 2025, with further details to be announced. Joel's life was a portrait of dedication, love, and service, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
