Joseph G. Marone, PhD

Joseph G. Marone, PhD, of North Franklin, CT, and Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 31, 2024. He was 86 years old. Born on October 28, 1938, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the only child of James and Rose Marie Marone.

Joe graduated from All Hallows High School in New York City and went on to earn a BS in Biology from Villanova University. He continued his education at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Canada earning an MS, and ultimately achieved a PhD in Psychology from Waldron University in 1983, while raising his family.

During his time at Ottawa University, Joe met Rosemarie Porto. They married on July 10, 1965, and soon after moved to North Franklin, CT, where they built their life together. He had four children. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Marone. His surviving children are Matthew, Luke, and Danielle Marone. He is also survived by Matthew's wife, Cheri Marone, and Danielle's husband, Chris Mortellaro. Joe was a loving grandfather to his three beloved grandchildren: Elliot, Elle, and Wesley Marone.

Joe served as a clinical psychologist at Norwich State Hospital for 26 years, where he worked alongside his wife. He was deeply involved in his community, serving as a member of the Jaycees in Valparaiso, IN; President of the Franklin Lions Club; Democratic Town Committee Chairman for Franklin, CT; and President of the New London Power Squadron. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball.

In retirement, Joe and Rosemarie split their time between Fort Myers, FL, and Franklin, CT, maintaining close ties with friends in both areas. Joe was passionate about boating, spending countless hours on the water in the Mystic and New London, CT areas. He was also dedicated to Habitat for Humanity, where he volunteered extensively, helping to build homes in Fort Myers.

Joe will be remembered as a loving and giving man, known for his vitality, intelligence, curiosity, and unwavering support. His family and friends will miss his warmth and companionship deeply.

Plans are being made for a remembrance Mass at St. Columbkille Church in Fort Myers, FL. The family will hold a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Baltic, CT on June 7, 2025 at 10am.
