I met Joey once through a mutual friend. He was one of the nicest people I've ever met. We talked about guitars and life. He asked what strings I used on my guitar and the following day, I had 6 packs of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys from Joey. He didn't have to do that, but his heart of gold showed he cared and listened to our short conversation. I will always remember that time with him. God Bless Joey and his family!

It´s sad to see that more members are no longer with us to give us a great concert. Hope you, Toby and Chuck are once again playing together and giving those above concerts to enjoy over and over as you gave us. You all left us too soon.

I will never forget the kindness Joey showed to us at many shows. He never had a star ego. Just a beautiful man.

April 5, 2023

Strange that I would think of Honeysuckle Rose today. Just popped into my mind. Guess listening to old Willie Nelson songs probably prompted it. I was an editor of the Fort Worth Magazine when that movie came out. I interviewed Joey then. Sweet kid who really loved Willie and the horse Willie gave him. I asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up and his exact words were: "I want to be just like Wille." Rest in Peace, Joey.

He was gone and buried before we knew it. What a sweetheart Joey was. Never hears him say a bad thing about anyone. He was generous with his stage space and encouraged others. He was such a sweet soul & talent. I´m sure we will see him in heaven leading the Welcome To Heaven Band. This worlds a better place for having Joey walk through it, but gone too soon.

Words can not express my sorrow at the loss of this humble man. My heart aches for his family and friends, most of his "fans" felt as if he was a friend. Never did he not have time for a child in the aaudienc, or a smile.to a face he recognized from being at numerous shows. Joey made you feel like a friend, and he will be missed. Rest in peace sweet man.

Joey was always making people laugh, even when he was not feeling well he managed a smile and a dirty joke :). I did not know him well, the little time I knew him was a gift.

February 20, 2016

I was saddened to hear about Joey dying, and I know how difficult this is for his family and friends. I've known Joey for about 20 years and over those years we became friends. Joey always called me "Rev." Even as I write this, I can hear him saying things like,"Hey Rev," "What's up, Rev?" "What's going on, Rev?" Everytime he would see me, he would hug me and say, "Give me some love, Rev."

Before every concert, Toby, the band, and the crew would gather in a circle and pray just before they went on stage. It has been my honor and privilege to lead the prayer any time I'm out on the road with them. More times than I can count, we would gather in our group and Joey would squeeze in between me and the person next to me and say, "Let me get next to Rev before we pray."

Over the years, Joey and I would often talk about sports. He loved it any time the Longhorns or the Horned Frogs beat my beloved Sooners.

Over the last couple of years, our talks were often about life and death and time and eternity. I remember one of those times last year when we were in Canada for a few shows. We were at a hockey rink in Moosejaw and had just finished our prayer before the concert, but Joey had missed the prayer. As I was walking away, Joey came and said, "Hey Rev, let's me and you have a prayer." And as we did several times together, the two of us had our own prayer group and I prayed for him. The reason that one stands out is because after the show he told me he was at peace and felt like something had lifted off of him.

A few weeks after that we were in Cheyenne, Wyoming and we both walked over to see the rodeo before the concert. We talked about his cancer and how someday it could become terminal. I told Joey that all of us are terminal in the sense that we will all face death at some point. I also told him that death is not the end; life continues on in eternity. For the child of God, heaven is our eternal home. I believe that Joey was at peace with the Lord when he died, and although I will miss seeing him on this earth, I know I will see him again.

I love the following verses from I Thessalonians 4:13-18: "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

Our time on this earth is brief, but our life in Christ is eternal! Joey, we shall spend eternity together. I will miss your smile, your jokes, your talent, and your friendship. I love you, my brother- Rev

Lauren, I was hoping to see Joey again as he would drive by Angela's house in your neighborhood as he went to do something. I won't forget the first time I met him walking around the neighborhood when he came out to check on the fire hydrant running that night and since then, he always stopped to say hey when he saw me in the yard. I will keep you in prayers as you and the family in prayers and I really am going to miss chatting with Joey and seeing him stop by. I am very glad to have had a short time to get to know a little bit about Joey. Keeping you in prayer.

February 17, 2016

My grandparents Vivian & Warren Neal introduced me to Joey and Jill Floyd when I as about 12 years old. I was the same age as Joey and had the pleasure of watching him perform from the front row of JHCM weekly for 5 or 6 years. I had never heard such an amazing musician at such a young age, seasoned band members couldn't believe how talented he was. God given talent and hard work ethic allowed Joey to have a very successful career in music. Aside from his successful musical talent, it seemed he was able to stay grounded in his roots, stay humble, keep his wit and kind heartedness. Prayers for Joey's family, band members, fans and close friends. #gone2soon #thanks4themusic

When our band Inyo Face moved from Georgia to Dallas in the early 90's not many bands were let's just say welcoming. Not Joey, he came to see us when he heard about us and we developed a friendship that has lasted through our careers. I truly love the guy. Of course when you have the talent he has you don't have to be intimidated by anyone. I can't believe this has happened, I send my condolences to his wonderful family.
