Mr. William Joseph (Joey) Prudhomme, age 68, of Bermuda, La. left this world, when he was ready to be in a beautiful and peaceful place in heaven, on February 9th, 2023. Diagnosed in September 2022, he was a courageous warrior against small cell lung cancer and interstitial lung disease, until his passing while at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, La.
Joey was born to John and Maxine Prudhomme of Cedar Bend, in Bermuda, La. on July 19, 1954. He loved growing up on Cedar Bend and would many times say that he had a great childhood that provided a boy with a paradise, a place to hunt, fish, swim and ride horses with family, cousins and friends. Later in life, he and his wife returned to his beloved Cedar Bend and made their family home there. You would see him taking his daily walks sometimes with his grandchildren, who he deeply loved.
His parents preceded him in heaven.
Joey was a 1971 graduate of St Mary’s School in Natchitoches, La. A U.S.Navy veteran ,as a Hurricane Hunter in 1973 . He was a diver with Global Divers from 1975-1978. He worked in the oil and gas industry as a production operator, foreman and supervisor, lastly with PMI in 2007. He was a cattleman, day trader and loved world travel.
Joey loved to meet people and share his great life experiences with them. Many were touched by his kindness, his helpfulness, stories and inspiration. Always ready to help someone, he was laughing, joking, smiling and made an impact on those around him. He never met a stranger.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His life will be cherished by his loving wife Ruth A Prudhomme, and his children Sarah Oubre (Alex), Jenny L.Schattschneider (Michael), Nathaniel Severin (Brittany),Nigel Severin (Hillary), Nicholas Severin (Jolie) and Michael Harper. He was an awesome Grandfather, known as JoJo to his grandchildren: Brianna Prudhomme, Noah, Kyleigh, Preston, Jackson, Mila, Harper, Knox, Eva,and Nicholas Severin.Coledyn Oubre and soon to be born, William Schattschneider. By his siblings; Lee Vickers, AngelaTaylor (Bob), Johnny Prudhomme (Pat), Luanne Terry, and Clare Trichel (Dewayne), and all his nieces, nephews and dearest friends.
The family would like to thank Drs. Otis and Margaret Barnum, NRMC Cancer Center, especially Dr. Fuquan Akhtar, nurses and staff. Dr. Scott Howard, Dr. Guillermo Padilla-Pineda and Dr.Deepika Ralla of CHRISTUS Highland Medical and Cancer Center. In his final days, he was surrounded with loving, kind and compassionate care by the doctors, nurses, techs and staff of CPCU on the 1st floor. In lieu of flowers and to honor Joey’s legacy, the family is establishing the William Joseph “Joey” Prudhomme fund at CHRISTUS Foundation Shreveport-Bossier to thank the CPCU care team and future teams, reminding them that their hard work, dedication and loving care will not be forgotten. Gifts may be made online at https://christusfoundationshreveportbossier.org/give/tributes/ or by cash or check to 7591 Fern Avenue, Suite 1903, Shreveport, LA 71105.
Mr. Prudhomme requested to be cremated, and not to have a funeral. A memorial service will follow at a later date.
And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn
Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His hand
Afterglow
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Sorry to hear about Joey’s passing. Ran into him several months back and was great visiting with him. He and my oldest brother Eddie(Arab) were good friends. I’m sure they’re spinning some tall tales in Heaven now. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear of Joey’s passing. I always found him to be intelligent, witty and genuinely interested in what you had to say, from our days on the first revived St Mary’s football team in 1970, and then during our occasional meetings all through the years. I’m sorry there won’t be any more such meetings in this life.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Joey since the late 1970's when we worked for Operators Inc., out in the Gulf of Mexico. We became closer when I moved to Colorado, as he came to visit me to ski or snowmobile, and I would visit with him on my trips back to Louisiana. Great guy to be around, always had good stories and life experiences to share. I was also blessed to have him give me personal tour of Kisatchie a couple of years ago, in his recently remodel Jeep. His great personality will be missed by many. RIP my brother from another mother.
