John Allsup, 81, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 1:51 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Union Hospital. He retired from Stran Steel, after 28 years of service. He was born Jan. 1, 1928, in Vigo County, to Henry Allsup and Emma Bedwell Allsup.Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Noma Neal Allsup, whom he married March 13, 1946, in Terre Haute. They were blessed with five children who are all surviving, two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Nancy Allsup, and John and Janet Allsup; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanie and Dennis Robinson, Connie and Alan Hill, and Trish and Rex Schoffstall; a sister, Mary "Lizzie" (Clarence "Ed") Byrd; 10 granddaughters, Josi Allsup, Mandy Hill, Joy Robinson, all of West Terre Haute, Angela Allsup of Terre Haute, Toni Lynn Runyon of Fishers, Kim and Chris Kane of Mooresville, Rachele and Don Grassick of Terre Haute, Susan and Will DeLattre, and Jenena and Dennis Parker, all of West Terre Haute, and Brook and David Snider of Clinton; six grandsons, Jase Allsup, David Robinson, Greg (JoLee) Robinson, and John (Jennifer) Schoffstall, all of West Terre Haute, Dennis (Angela) Robinson of Nashville, Ind., and Brad (Trisha) Hill of Clinton; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Melvin, and James Allsup; and four sisters, Lucy Merritt. Nellie Schaffer, Selista Doran, and Rose Furrer. John enjoyed life, working in his garden and in his garage, woodworking and making crafts. Funeral services are 1 p.m. today at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Paul Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Pleasantview Cemetery. Visitation is prior to services.

Johnny and Noma were the first of Willy's family I met when Willy and I first starting dating. They welcomed me into the family 39 years ago and they helped us get started in our marriage. Johnny will be greatly missed by family and friends.
