John Antonini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2025.

John Batista Antonini, born January 2, 1946, passed away suddenly on March 21, 2025. Dearly beloved husband of Maria Antonini for 56 years; devoted father to Gabriella and Jane. Incredibly loving grandfather to Aidan, Silvana, Massimo, and Vincenzo; great grandfather to Avery. Preceded in death by his parents Harold and Irma; loving brother to Diana Elders, Katherine Kerr, and James Antonini. Devoted brother-in-law to Paul Elders (deceased 2024), Andrew Kerr, Italo (deceased 2024) and Liliana Zarich, Ennio and Marianne Zarich, Ernst and Alma Golla, John (deceased 2002) and Silvana Lucero, Bruna Zarich (deceased 1998) and Peter Zarich (deceased 2021). Dear uncle to many nephews and nieces.

John's journey began in North Beach, San Francisco where he attended Saints Peter and Paul grammar school and later graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1964.

Although John and Maria went to the same grammar school, they really didn't get to know each other until their late teens. They were married on October 26, 1968, and resided happily in San Bruno for the last 48 years. John had an excellent work ethic as a member of the Teamsters Union of San Francisco. He worked for many years before he retired in 2004.

John was an amazing and talented musician. He loved to play the piano, but his true passion was the trumpet. This passion led him to play in the Skyline College concert band for over a decade and he was still enrolled at the time of his passing. John also played his trumpet for friends and family at their important life events. He was also an excellent dancer, the result of studying tap dance in his younger years. He and Maria could really "cut the rug" over the years!

John was loved by so many; his soft and gentle nature touched many lives. He had a great sense of humor and easily made people laugh with his impersonations. Not only was he musically inclined, he had great athletic abilities. He was on the Salesian Boy's Club baseball team and the Saint Ignatius swim team. His weekly exercise routine consisted of swimming laps, bicycling, and walking daily with Maria.

John was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. He started every morning reading scripture, which was evidenced by his honesty and integrity. His deep Christian values reflect greatly on his daughters and grandchildren, and gave them a strong foundation.

John's legacy, a Christ-centered life lives on through the countless lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salesian Boys and Girls Club, 680 Filbert Street, San Francisco, CA 94133. Also found online at salesianclub.org

Friends and family are invited to attend his Celebration of Life on May 3, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Church of the Highlands, 1900 Monterey Drive, San Bruno, CA 94066

Myself and Sandra loved John so much. He always was ready to shake hands share and seemed to Love his life family Maria and most of all God. I´ve gone many years knowing his daughters his beautiful encouraging lovely Blessed wife Maria. He went often to the Mens Retreats which myself Ralph Tony Hiram led for years and the blessing to be there with other men and John. One knew him as a blessing. We will see him again in heaven.

Johnny was my dear cousin. I recently was going through old photos and came across the attached. It is of my brothers, Alex, Pete, Johnny, and George at Clear Lake when we were teenagers. I am sure you will recognize Johnny as he was very handsome back then and remained so until the day of his passing. Yes, Johnny was a great musician and he taught me how to play "What´d I say" by Ray Charles on the piano. I will never forget that day, as he was so kind and patient. Till this day, I can still play that segment. May he rest in peace. He will be greatly missed.
