To Mrs. Astarita, John and Michael. I send my many, sincerest condolences. Mr. Astarita was always a presence down at Nutts Pond's South Little League for both baseball and soccer. I remember how he would just give instructions to all the kids, even the kids playing against John and Mike. I remember him as a great father and a cheerleader of life. I remember playing pickup basketball at Memorial High School where I was usually the worst player and he always made sure that I was on his team so he could teach me the game, and he did, and he also taught me how to shoot free throws! Again, my condolences to Mrs. Astarita, John, and Michael.

To Ginny and the entire Astarita family, We send our condolences and our love. John was a special friend & even though we were miles apart I would talk to him every week and at any hour. Family, sports and politics were the topics of our chats. He shared stories of his grandkids, talked about his sons and how blessed he was to have Ginny in his life. During his last visit to NY - John gathered his neighborhood friends together for a special story telling evening and in a typical John Astarita way he was able to keep the conversations focused on basketball. I loved John, I will miss him dearly and will always have him in my heart. May He Rest in Peace. Joe Piazza and family

We will all miss uncle John and what a great dad he always was! I'm pretty sure cousin Johnny,Mikey and Jason could really master any sport because of him. He always included us girls in the street hockey , or any sport(we struggled to play)and made us feel like we were one of the guys, that was great! Truly one of kindness people.. Our thoughts and prayers are with all...

Johnny, I remember the runs to New York from college and the days you would crash with Boomer and me at the hacienda in Litchfield in the 70's. Great times at school, at The Rock and all over. I know Boomer as waiting for you in the hereafter. Wish him well.

Every conversation I ever had with him was educational: about basketball, mathematics, life, being a man, doing the right thing no matter what...it was amazing how much knowledge you could gain from just a casual conversation with him. He always cared about other people first, always asked how others were doing years or even decades after seeing them last. And he always wanted you to challenge yourself, push yourself, all while enjoying what you were doing. He knew what life was all about, and he made countless people's lives better through his words, his actions, his personality, and from the example that he set. A truly irreplaceable human being.

I have known John since my first job in 1990 in the Casino Gaming Industry and throughout my career. He Was truly one of of a kind- a person who really loved life and people and always had a kind word to say with his contagious smile. You will be missed by so many- but the loss is no where near that of your dear family. I have you all in my prayers to find strength together and comfort knowing ~ John is now the angel watching over all of you.

John was the first neighbor we met on Panoramic Court and he told us about Ginny who would be coming out soon and how I'd have to meet her...and meet her we did. Ginny and I became close friends from the start and we still remain such after all those years...15 I believe.... John would always think of Ginny, making sure she was taken care of...I feel the heartache for my friend and her sons and Granddaughters...I personally will miss our telephone conversations when I called to reach Ginny and got John instead. He and my husband shared a birthday (Nov 18) and both were not handy around the house...or car. Ginny and I would always joke about that, but we knew what they lacked in that department, they made up for in other ways. I am sending a huge hug to all of the Astaritas, especially my friend Ginny. I'll always be here for you.
