It is always sad to learn of the death of a distinguished Canadian. John Barr was certainly a distiunguished Canadian as the notice of his passing suggests. Away from his military environment, he was also a terrific neighbour. As a former neighbour of many years, it should be noted that he, and Marion, were 'down to earth' people with kindness and consideration and friendship at the forefront. John had a 'good run' and will be greatly missed by many friends and acquaintances. Our condolences to his family.

It was with saddness that I learned of the passing of MGen Barr. His many contibutions to the CFMS throughout his 52 years of military service will continue to live on after him as a living monument. I wish to extend my sympathy to his family.

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of MGen John Barr, a distinguished physician who dedicated his whole life to the service of military medicine. I will remember MGen Barr for his "old world" courtliness, courtesy and charm, his support during a period of tumultuous, unremitting change for the Medical Service, and for his friendship. His passing leaves a huge void within the CFMS family, but I am thankful for his life and for the memories.
MGen (ret'd) Wendy Clay,
Surgeon General 1994-1998
