John Bartholf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, 2021.
John David Bartholf
Oct. 23, 1949 - Nov. 6, 2021
John passed away Nov. 6, 2021 surrounded by loving family.
John was born in Jacksonville, Fla., and grew up in Green Cove Springs, Fla. His formidable years were spent working alongside his brothers, Mychael and Frank, on Bartholf Dairy and lifeguarding at Kingsley Lake. Always a natural and gifted athlete, John excelled in all sports, especially football and baseball.
John moved to Apopka, Fla., in 1980 where he opened a successful insurance agency and began honing his golf skills at Errol Estate Golf and Country Club. One of his favorite sayings was "Every important business relationship I've ever made began on the golf course." He relocated to the West Coast in 1991 and Portland, Ore., became his hometown where he continued his success as a business owner until his retirement.
One of John's greatest enjoyments in life was playing golf and tennis with his children. Many weekends were spent competing in father-son and father-daughter tennis tournaments, throughout the state.
On Saturdays, you always knew where to find John - cheering on his Florida Gators alongside his beloved dogs, Murphy, Jasper, and Zachary.
Whether throwing the epic block party or hosting world-traveling musicians into his home for a private concert, John loved bringing family and friends together for memory-making events. He generously donated to various animal charities, children's health organizations, and veterans throughout his community.
John was an EXTRAORDINARY and ever-loving brother, father and grandfather. He loved his family deeply and will be greatly missed and loved forever.
John is survived by his son, Jerry Cutchens (Laura) of Oviedo, Fla.; and daughter, Kimberly Bartholf of Bend, Ore.; grandchildren, Audrey, Austin, and Cory; brothers, Mychael Bartholf (Sue) of Mercer, Maine and Frank Bartholf (Raymond) of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Seaward Bartholf; and mother, Estelle Bartholf, both of St. Augustine, Fla.

Ever fond memories of a young man (>55 years ago) full of life.

Friends with Johnny since sixth grade in Green Cove Springs, Florida, he was a great person, fun loving and caring. My husband and I went to Oregon to visit with him some years back. Kim, your dad will be surely missed, but fond memories help the ache of his loss. Deepest condolences to you and your family. May God give you comfort.

My blessings and thoughts go out to the family of this wonderful man, John. I knew him in his younger years. He was a senior in high school and my first love (platonic) in high school. I knew him as Johnny, we dated for his senior year then he went on to college and we parted company sadly. I have never forgotten him. Ironically I was just looking at the scrap book of the year we had together, the one item from high school I have not thrown away. He was an awesome person then and it looks like he became even more awesome. I wish I could have know the man he became. To the family, I am sorry for your loss. I know my sorrow but can only imagine yours. May you find support in one another and, if you believe, in God.
