John Baseheart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 13, 2023.
With broken hearts, we are sad to say that our brother John C. Baseheart passed away on July 1, 2023. John was the eldest son of Chris and Bonnie Baseheart. He worked many years for Baseheart's Restaurant in Novato, at Whistlestop where earned employee of the year in 1998 and Safeway on Nave Drive in Novato. Currently he was working for Marin Access before passing unexpectedly from cardiac arrest. John loved the clients he drove all over Marin, his home, sitting on his porch socializing with his neighbors and watching the birds, squirrels, racoons and other critters, his amazing plants both indoors and out (water from the bottom), music and politics. He is survived by sister Vicki, brothers Jeff and Tim, sister in laws Pam and Sharon as well as many nieces and nephews. His parents, his sister Pat Vachini and his beloved kitty Mishka predeceased him. John was a big sentimental guy who wrote poetry. He was kind, told many stories about Novato and kept every Christmas card he ever received. We miss him greatly. Hugs, bubba, JB, Johnny B. Heartfelt thanks to the ICU team at Kaiser Terra Linda.

A reception in memory of John will be held on August 23, from 1-3 p.m. at Maya Palenque, 349 Enfrente Road, Novato. Donations in memory of John will be welcomed by Marin Humane at marinhumane.org.

I remember him as a man of great spirit. He drove my disabled daughter to school while working at Whistle Stop. He always had such a positive attitude and good sense of humor. God bless his soul.

John & I worked together at Whistlestop, as Drivers, (He was Road Supervisor) for several years. All the clients really liked him for his gregarious personality! I could always tell if John had driven the Bus before me, as there were Sunflower Seed shells in the left door well. When I brought it to his attention, we both laughed hysterically. I'll really miss him!

Family & Friends of John,

I was not aware of John´s passing until recently, very sad to hear this. I met John at Whistlestop years ago, he worked in transportation and I was in the front office. We became good friends and would spend some of our lunch times together. He was larger than life in humor and personality, quite the jolly guy!

We had nick names, a few of us referred to John as "Fuzzy" and he would call me "Mooch"... that may have come about as we shared lunch together, although I´m not sure who took who´s food! We had fun and got in a lot of laughs... it was nice to break up the day with John in your presence. John was passionate about his job, he cared about his passengers and co workers but seemed to have a special place in his heart for the seniors, and they trusted him in return; with his heart of gold, he was a perfect fit for the position he held.

My sincere condolences to all of John´s Family and Friends, I know he is missed by many. To a kind, friendly and caring man, peace be with you for all of eternity.

Your Friend,

Sandy Dickson (aka "Mooch")

As a friend and neighbor, I have to say how deeply Johnny B. touched my life. He welcomed me with his booming voice and open arms and warm generosity and friendship. He was so much fun and so filled with laughter, love and joy. I am so sorry to hear of his passing and share deep sympathies with his family. He made a difference in every life he touched. He was one of those rare individuals who never knew a stranger. I will miss his generous warmth and laughter. Always, Sincerely, Teresa Reddy.

I've known John for about 11 years and visited him every time I dog sat for Rocky and Teddy (Pam Thornton's dogs). He always greeted me with a large smile and warm, booming hello. We'd share cocktails occasionally and talk endlessly about our interest in extraterrestrials, politics and climate problems. John was bigger than life and was passionate about so many interests. He wrote several articles to Marin newspapers on his ideas of desalination of seawater into drinking water and water for homes, farms, etc. in Marin County.

I always saw John caring for his yard and garden and he was so proud of his batch of seeds that flowered each year in beautiful colors.

John was personality plus plus. We laughed easily with each other. I will miss Johnny B. dearly. With love, Chrissie B.

Uncle Johnny, I have so many amazing memories of you from my childhood on. You were larger than life and a superhero to me. After Uncle Mike passed we walked the neighborhood with so many good stories, we actually went back to Our Lady of Loretto and ended the day at Star restaurant. You will always be my uncle and in my heart. The McDonald family loves you!
