John Winford Baucum

There is an empty space in the hearts of all who knew John. There is a hole in the heart of one who loved John. We seldom realize soon enough how much a part of our life someone is until they are gone. For 20+ years HE was a part of my life. He taught me, he listened to me complain, he laughed, told jokes, helped me in so many ways. I still listen sometimes in the morning for him. I will miss John. It is comforting to know there is no sorrow that God cannot heal.

My heart goes out to the Baucum Family. I'm sure you will miss John terribly and HISD doesn't have a clue how much they will miss him. "John Baucum" was the answer to lots of questions. "Call John Baucum. He will know." John was a wealth of information. He knew HISD policy backward and forward with regard to his department. He was always able to answer my question or tell me how to correct an error. HISD will never be able to replace him. Thank you, Baucum Family, for lending him to us for awhile.

We will surely miss John...a great, wonderful co-worker...who always exhibited great patience when answering my dumber than blonde questions.

Although we in California did not know John directly, we knew him through his sister Joanne and his many shared emails. He was without a doubt the most hiliarious observer of everyday life experiences I have come to know and always enjoyed his take on every subject we cared to critique. His presence will be forever missed by his friends in California that I am sure he never realized he had. I would imagine he has staked out the best seats in heaven's stadium to take on all the best of the best baseball games, etc. My heartfelt condolences to his large and grieving family & friends who didn't have much time to say see ya' later. He has slipped the bindings of this crazy thing called life and is now free to roam the world and take in all things beautiful - a good alternative to his last couple of months. Rest in glorious peace my friend and put in a good word for all of us left behind.

amazing grace how sweet the sound....i will never for get you uncle john you were and amazing uncle\ friend. i always enjoyed our talks about guns and baseball and i cant believe they had to end so soon. you have touched the lives of so many people and i hope that you can understand how much you mean to your family and friends. you will be forever missed. RIP

I noticed the announcement of your brother's death in the paper this morning, and just wanted to extend my sympathy and prayers of caring and support. I know this has been a difficult year for you and your family. Please know that your St. Philip family is here to be of whatever help and comfort we can be.

My name is Kellen Sims. I wanted to take the time to share and encouraging thought with your family during this time of loss. The realization of how many peoples lives an individual has affected is never fully realized until they are gone. An encouraging thought from the bible came to mind when I read this obituatry in the paper. It is Ecclesiates 7:1 which says "A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one's being born." Rejoice that even though his life may have been cut short, during the time he had, he was able to affect the lifes of others in a positive way. I hope this thought helps you to continue to remember fondly the definition he gave to his name during his life.

John was an avid movie and television fan, John always wanted to be the first one to see a movie that he thought would be interesting. John had a remarkable memory and could remember details from years back with precision. John was a hard work and dedicated HISD employee who touched many lives with his Centralized Activity Fund knowledge and his willingness to share all that he knew. John will be greatly missed by all he worked with at HISD.
