Carol,
I can remember the first time I ever saw John, he was on TV in a pool championship match. Mel and I had just arrived at Sam & Diane Henderson's house, and they hollered at us to hurry up and sit down in the front room. They were watching the game and I wondered why they were on the edge of their seats, literally, cheering for John to win. Sam told me, "That's George Q's son-in-law!" which I really didn't believe, as I only knew Lloyd, Rock, Ritchie, Alana and Louella. I don't actually remember if he won, but I will never forget when I first saw him, probably in 1975...

He was a generous supporter of the slo-pitch team that hosts the Friday night poker tournaments, and he was definitely one of our favourite players. We were so happy when he won the tournament a month ago.

He will be missed, but we're sure he's found a game. May all his cards be live and the pots be monsters...

I was very saddened to learn of John's passing. My sincere condolences to the entire Bear family. I will miss John and remember him with a smile as his quick wit and personality were endearing characteristics that will live in my memory of him. He was a fierce competitor that I had tremendous respect for on the snooker table. Heaven's cuesport team has just gained a valuable member.
