John Besemer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2024.
John Sidney Besemer, born on July 10, 1948, passed away peacefully at Blodgett Hospital on October 20, 2024, due to multiple health complications resulting from his exposure to Agent Orange. John was born in Cheboygan Michigan one of ten children. He grew up in Cedar Springs, where his love of sports began. He exceled in all of them, becoming captain of the football and tennis teams and participating in basketball and baseball. Immediately out of HS John was drafted and served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam. Upon his return, John studied at Montcalm College in Sidney, Michigan receiving an Associate Degree in Commercial and Residential Construction. He subsequently worked for many building companies in and around Hart, MI and established Hart Builders in 1992. He was one of a dying breed, truly a "master craftsman", agile in all areas of the building trade (framing, foundation, electric, plumbing, masonry, painting etc.). He loved his work and took pride in it, he was an artist. John was a gentle quiet spirit, he had a twinkle in his eye, a humorous side which everyone loved. He enjoyed cooking and the consumption of his own recipes. He was a good man and a kind man. John was preceded in death by his son, Jake Besemer, mother, Evelyn Besemer, father James Besemer, brother Joe Besemer and sisters Mary Besemer and Roxanne Trompen. He is survived by two children, Nathan Besemer and Madeline Valley; sisters Charlotte (Ron) Lampen, Sally Cooper (Bob Van Buskirk), Pat (Fred) Bingman, Chrissy Clisso; brothers Jim Besemer, Bob (Cathy) Besemer, several nieces and nephews and five grandchildren. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed. A memorial-celebration of life will be hosted Saturday, November 2 at The Gull Landing, 438 S. Hancock St., Pentwater, MI 49449 from 4-6pm.

I have fond memories of my brother John through the years. Was so proud of his athletic abilities in high school and enjoyed watching him play football and basketball. Glad I got to spend some time with him at the end. You will be missed by your family and friends. We love you John!

I am very saddened at news considering the fact that no one in my FAMILY let me know he passed. He was there for me when my dad died. He was one of the coolest guys I´ve known. Love you uncle John.

John and I were on the football and basketball teams together in high school. He was quiet with a good sense of humour and could always be counted on. Guys from the ball team were honoured to be pall bearers at his Moms funeral. He was one of the good guys, he will be missed. Jim Ward

Attended high school with John and Joe. Remember them both with fondness, just plain good guys. Vietnam was a terrible burden on our generation. Still killing some, way to young. Condolences to the family of John.
