Mr. Bogdan was my summer school teacher. He taught me the love of math. I loved going to summer school and learning about math with him.

Both of my sons were extremely fortunate to have Mr. Bogdan as their teacher. He put his heart and soul into teaching, and as a result, many, many of his former students benefited. He called his students "miss" and "mr." And as has been written here before, his handwriting was impeccable. Rest in peace, John Bogdan, you certainly left your mark on alot of people in your lifetime. Evelyn Peck

I taught with John at Jarrettown for several years. For a short time, I substituted and took a long term job for him when he went on one of his trips. John had beautiful handwriting and was extremely neat in his record keeping. Well, apparently I wasn´t neat enough for him because when he came back from his trip, he completely recopied his record book. When John turned 70, we sent him a fruit basket for his birthday. After that, he sent us an Omaha Steak basket every Christmas, up to, and including last year. I spoke with him at the holidays every year and he was always so upbeat. Even when he could no longer get out of bed by himself, he said," I can´t complain. I thank God I have no pain". We always enjoyed hearing about John feeding the squirrels. I think he would get a pound of pecans every week for them to enjoy. John loved animals, and always had a dog up until he was no longer able to care for one. John also sang with us in Abington Choral Club for many years. He absolutely loved Vivaldi´s Gloria and requested it quite often. I cannot believe how good a memory John had up until the end. Whenever I spoke with him he always asked about our children and other teachers with whom we worked. John was a caring, kind gentleman and it was my pleasure to have known him.

Our family had the privilege of being John´s neighbors from 1986-1992. John always remembered meeting my Mom in those years even though she was visiting from Chicago. John always asked about our kids even in these last years. Several years ago the Lord blessed John with a large print Bible. I will never forget John´s excitement at reading the Word of God and his calls excitedly sharing what he had read that day!

Mr. Bogdan was a wonderful teacher-one of the best! I'll always remember the pretzel sticks and sometimes popsicles....and I'll always remember him telling our class that he hated the adjective, "nice" and that we were never to use it! He was the best and I'll never forget him!

Mr. Bogdan was my 6th grade teacher at Jarrettown Elementary school. I seem to recall that he went To the Galapagos Islands that year and we learned about some of the wildlife there. I had a wonderful year in his class.

John Bogdan was a titan.

As I wrote in a letter to him for his birthday, he rewarded us with pretzels when we did well and never failed to let us know when we should have tried harder. (I remember one time in particular, when he was upset with me because I couldn't be bothered to enter a contest calling for drawings of either Thomas Jefferson or George Washington. He thought I had a shot at winning and couldn't fathom why I wouldn't even make the attempt. It was a memorable lesson in what a waste it is to fritter away one's abilities.)

He helped launch me and many others into the world by urging us to hold ourselves to a higher standard. Looking back, what I most appreciate now is that he made the lesson stick by doing it himself-by never giving us less than his best when teaching.

Sometime in the '70s, a group of us visited the teachers on a picket line outside Jarrettown during a strike. One of us asked him a question about math, and he sat down on the curb with her to walk her through the answer. That's who I recall. The man who couldn't resist teaching-even during a strike, when he wasn't supposed to-because a little girl needed his help.

Rest easy, John.

Your lessons will last lifetimes.
