John BRASSINGTON Obituary
JB was tragically taken from us on April 21, 2016 near Clinton, B.C. at the age of 65. Predeceased by his parents Bob and Betty Brassington and niece Meagan. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen (nee McGee) and the pride and joy of his life, his children CJ (Kaylyn), William and Samantha. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Anne- Marie (George), Trish, Barb (Matteo), June (Brent), Michael (Teresa), Dana and their families. Also missing him will be Eileen's mom Nora McGee and her family. He will be remembered by all the wonderful friends he met playing, teaching and coaching at St. Helen's School, Notre Dame High School, Hastings Little League, Burnaby Lacrosse and Latona Beach Camp. As a dad, uncle, teacher, coach and mentor, he taught so many to be the "best self" they could be by guiding them through life's moments and lessons with enthusiasm but never letting slide that which was not right. He was ever generous with his time, stepping up when he saw someone needing help or a job that needed to be done. He often worked in the background without complaint or expectation of recognition, but took great satisfaction in a job well done. John (JB) had a wonderful life that ended too soon, but his legacy of passion and respect for life is leaving a huge footprint here on earth. He is at peace in the Love of God and would want you to give everyone you care about a big hug. Because John got such joy from his family and sports, people are encouraged to wear casual or sports garb to represent your association with him. Prayers will be said Monday, May 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Helen's Church, 3860 Triumph St. Burnaby, where Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday May 3, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "John Brassington Bursary" through the Notre Dame Alumni Foundation online at www.ndrs.org or mailed to Notre Dame High School, 2880 Venables St., V5K 4Z6. The family would also like those who can to donate blood as his daughter Samantha received so many units of blood.

I'm saddened to hear of John's passing. Although we had obviously lost touch over the decades, when I read his obituary in the the Sun a lot of great memories flashed back in my mind. I played lacrosse with him in the early Seventies with the Burnaby Junior A lacrosse team. John was a hard-working, fun-loving young man who was a pleasure to be around and to have as a teammate. Everyone on the team loved him. My condolences to his immediate family for their sudden loss.

I say this to one of the most genuine men I've ever known. John became part of my first chapter of a teaching career that began at Notre Dame. I learned from him, and laughed with him. it was with great sadness hearing of Johns passing. I was fortunate to be around John on the football field while coaching. His constant encouragement to the kids helped in the tough games. It's hard to believe JB is gone. Every time I go out to the parking lot, I see his face in the driver's seat window of the school bus. I loved his no frills approach; he always called 'em as he saw 'em. So sorry to see him taken too soon.
