John Michael Brown

September 1943 - June 2025

John Michael Brown, "Mike," passed away at the age of 81. Born in Seattle, Washington, on September 14, 1943, Mike lived a full and vibrant life rooted in community, sport, family, and friendship.

Mike grew up in West Seattle and formed his first and perhaps most enduring friendship at a young age. That best friend introduced him to his wife of 55 years and remained a constant presence in his life.

He is survived by his devoted daughter, cherished grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, all of his beloved nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends from childhood and beyond who remained by his side throughout his life.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife with whom he shared a lifetime of love and adventure, and by his son, with whom he spent many winters traveling in search of the perfect powder, united by their deep love of skiing.

A proud graduate of O'Dea High School, Mike came up through the Catholic school system and maintained lifelong bonds with his classmates, many of whom visited him in his final days. He continued his education at the University of Washington, where he earned a degree in psychology, and later completed his graduate studies at Long Beach State.

Mike went on to work as a school psychologist, serving students at several high schools across the Seattle and Eastside areas. His passion for guiding and mentoring young people extended to athletics as well, he was a dedicated high school football coach for many years, and in his later years, he coached the girls' tennis team at Newport High School. On Sunday mornings, he could always be found on the tennis courts with his close-knit group of tennis buddies, playing hard, laughing harder.

In addition to his work in education and sports, Mike was also a talented builder. He led numerous commercial construction projects in West Seattle and California, leaving a lasting mark on the communities he worked in.

A born adventurer, Mike loved to travel. In their early years, he and his beloved wife founded a travel company and spent summers backpacking across Europe with high school students. His journeys took him all over the world, though he split most of his time between San Diego and Seattle.

Mike's friendships were his foundation. He had a gift for bringing people together, for lighting up every room with his smile and unmistakable energy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
