John Bruschi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 21, 2025.
John Bruschi of Millsboro, Delaware passed away in his home on May 16, 2025.

John was born and raised in the Bronx, NY before relocating to Westchester and Putnam counties in upstate New York before retiring with his wife to Millsboro, Delaware. He was the son of John Bruschi Senior and Angela Bruschi (Vacchelli).

John was a one-of-a-kind character with a unique sense of humor. He was known for his silly antics and his generous nature - he would give the shirt off his back to anyone. John was a hard-working and dedicated husband and father who worked hard his whole life in the beverage industry, continuing to do so until his very last days. He was a constant source of entertainment, security, reliability and advice.

John loved golf, and watching golf, and playing golf, and thinking about playing golf. He also enjoyed trivia, puzzles, Scrabble, and riddles as well as cooking and enjoying gourmet food in large quantities for low prices. He loved sitting in the car while his wife went to antique stores across the Eastern Seaboard. He was a really good sport.

John was survived by his wife of 39 years, Sylvia; his sister and best friend, Teresa; Teresa's husband, Bob; his children Donna, Laura, Sophie, and Ethan; their partners Jay, Eric, and Mike; his grandsons Henry, Johnny, and Ozzie; his cavalier spaniel Iggy, and his granddogs Elmo, Molly, and Archie, and Beans (cat).

John did not want any services. He wanted to throw his own memorial, so there will be a celebration of his life in New York this July for his 80th birthday.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in John's name.

We are few now - the many whose roots began at 1490 St. Lawrence Avenue in the Bronx.....yes, there are dozens of photos and bits and pieces of memorabilia, but the memories we created over the decades have stood the longest. I enjoyed the conversations over the years and sharing all family stories, for Johnny was a link for many of us...that I will miss. Thanks for the memories cuz!!
