John and family, sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I speak on behalf of myself and the Belmont Fire Dept. with our deepest condolences. Mary, John, Michael, Susan and Megan--
We are so deeply saddened by the passing of Jackie. We both knew him more than 40 years ago in Somerville. After we bought a summer home in Wells we reconnected with him. Often we asked him to stop working and join us for lunch at the Midway pool so we could take a 'walk down memory lane' together. How we all enjoyed those conversatons. He often spoke of his family-how proud he was-his love bubbling over! He was a kind and great man and we will truly miss him---rest in peace, Jackie..

Mr. Burgess was one of my earliest coaches and my friends' Dad. I was always struck by his demeanor. Even as a kid he was a man you respected for his kindness and his strength of character. He never felt the need to be loud or bully you but his soft spoken manner still got his point across. In a word, he was solid. He was a solid coach, solid teacher, solid Belmontian, solid husband and solid father. He was a man I liked very much and enjoyed playing for and being around.
Mrs. Burgess, John, Mike, Susan and Megan, the world is a little less than because your Dad is not in it. You have my deepest sympathies and sincerest condolences.

Uncle Jackie was such an amazing man...I will miss him. Jack always had the knack to make people feel comfortable and loved whenever he was around. I will always appreciate the great conversations and memories I have of him.

He loved his family so much and because he was so proud of them, he had the strength and courage to fight such a difficult battle.

Jack--You have fought the good fight..you have finished the race.

Sympathy to the Burgess family during this difficult time.
When you need a smile, remember the good times, they will help you get through.

Love to Uncle Jack! Rest peacefully.

This is very sad news indeed. I enjoyed talking briefly with Jackie at the reunion last November. He told me how much he was enjoying his retirement or semi-retirement and his grandchildren. He was always the most kind and gentle person you could meet unless you were a half-back or full-back on the opposing football team...

...or for that matter a full-back on our own team. As tenth graders, Coach Zammarchi had us scrimmage against the seniors among whom was this particular full-back named Larry Webber, about as big and as tough as Somerville could produce and as a line-backer Jackie would stop him completely in his tracks. Needless to say, Jackie was at least half his size.

Jackie carried his resolve amazingly well and will always be remembered. R.I.P. Virgil Aiello

Dear Mary and family,

Eric and I send our deepest regrets. I have always felt priviledged to be your next door neighbor and friend. Seeing Jack play with his children and grandchildren from my kitchen window over so many years, I often thought what an unpretentious, good man -- a wonderful, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Add to that his success in teaching, hospitality, and real estate and Jack's life is an impressive one. He leaves a legacy that lives on forever as evidenced by the care and devotion of Mary, Megan and John, Michael,Susan (and families).

Jackie was a Classmate at Somerville High and always got to see him every 5 years at our Reunions. He was an outstanding athlete. We have been by the Motel in Wells to see him also. May he rest in peace.

Mr. Burgess was my 6th grade teacher at the PHCS and I also saw him throughout my adult life traveling around Somerville managing his properties...He was always so interested in my life. He was a wonderful teacher and still 30 years later remembered us all with humor. A truly sweet and caring man! God bless you Mr. Burgess in your journey to your new place in heaven!
