My condolences to the Burgess family. I met and worked with John at DHS OCHCO. Having come from the private sector, there are a lot of differences in HR rules, processes, and procedures. John was instrumental in guiding me through not only the procedures, but patiently explaining why things were done the way they were. He was always so kind and didn't mind taking time and just being very professional with a personal touch. I so appreciated him. Also...I never liked chili until I tasted his award winning pot. He always welcomed me in his office with open arms for a chat and many times gave me advice about work or just life. His smile lit up the room and he will be truly missed.

I have enjoyed many conversations with him about his family, BBQ, his Fried Turkey, and our common ancestral routes in South Carolina. I will miss him.... and his "...Mam..."
