John C Thomas

John "Jack" Thomas, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 21, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.

Born on January 5, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, Jack was the son of Mary C. Thomas (née Monahan) and Edwin Peppard of the Chicago Police Department, who passed away in 1935. He was later raised by his mother and stepfather, Frank V. Thomas. Jack attended St. Rita's High School in Chicago and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio and Television from Michigan State University.

Jack began his career at the advertising agency Leo Burnett, where he created commercials that showcased his creativity and technical skill. His professional path led him through various studios across the country, ultimately bringing him to Southern California where he contributed to movies and television productions. His decades-long work in the entertainment industry left a meaningful impact on colleagues and audiences alike.

A proud member of the U.S. Marine Reserves, Jack carried a strong sense of duty throughout his life. He was also a devoted Roman Catholic and active member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jack married Mary Ellen (Mellon) Thomas (née Wait), with whom he shared a life filled with love and adventure. Together they raised three children: daughters Terri Zak (Patrick) and Suzanne Wood (Patrick), and son Michael C. Thomas (Laura Susan). He is also remembered by his brother Michael F. Thomas (Michele Clair).

Jack lived in many places across the United States-beginning in Chicago and continuing through West Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, California, Oregon, and finally Arizona.

He had a quick sense of humor and a passion for carpentry, photography, painting, hiking, canoeing, and enjoying film and music.

His legacy is one of creativity, devotion, craftsmanship-and above all-a life well-lived.
