John Calvert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2025.
John O. Calvert, a beloved son, brother, step-brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on March 31, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona. He was 71 years old.

Born on October 21, 1953, in White Plains, New York, John was the second of three children born to Edith and James O. Calvert. He grew up with a strong sense of family and a deep appreciation for hard work and service-values that would guide him throughout his life.

John pursued his passion for design and structure by earning a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Kentucky. During his college summers, he combined his love of travel with work by delivering furniture across the country-an experience that allowed him to explore new places while building character and resilience.

Following his graduation, John embarked on a distinguished career at Fort McCoy Military Base in Sparta, Wisconsin. Over the course of 30 years, he served with dedication and integrity in the Master Planning Division, ultimately rising to the position of Chief. His leadership and vision left a lasting impact on the base's development and operations.

Though John retired after decades of service, health challenges prevented him from fully enjoying the retirement he had so thoughtfully planned. Despite these struggles, he remained a source of warmth and support to those around him. Whether sharing a story or offering a helping hand, John never missed an opportunity to connect with others through kindness and humor.

John had many passions that enriched his life and brought joy to those who knew him. He was an avid cook who delighted in preparing meals for family and friends. One of his greatest joys was riding his Gold Wing motorcycle on trips with close companions-adventures that combined his love for the open road with cherished camaraderie.

John is survived by his sister Rose Marie Morgan (Dale), nephews Corey Wagehoft and Kyle Wagehoft (Lauren), sister-in-law Janet Calvert, niece Kendra Calvert (Andy), great-nephew Evan, and step-brothers Edward Burberry (Toni) and Frank Burberry (Sandra). He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and James O. Calvert, as well as his brother, James A. Calvert.

John's legacy lives on in the memories shared by those whose lives he touched-with laughter, loyalty, and unwavering generosity. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
