Hi. My Dad, Noel William Dingwall and John were cousins and I would love to reach out to his family to have a conversation.

Just now ( August 2015 ) read of JD's passing. Remember him well when I was a Geog student in the late 1970s .Enjoyed his classes and his self-deprecating humour and fluency as a lecturer.

Saddened to hear of Dr Chapman's passing. He and Pat were such great friends to both my parents, Hugh and Marie Legg.
The Chapman's visits to our family homes were always lively and full of laughter! This is the memory I will hold in my heart!

I have very happy memories of a fine personal and professional relationship with John - we taught an introductory course together several times. One memorable evaluation comment was "the old one should be sent back to England and the young one to New Zealand" [I am Australian!]" John and Pat were very welcoming to us when we arrived in Vancouver in 1975.

I remember your Dad as a thoughtful and caring gentleman. Just last week I was enquiring about him and am sad at his passing.

Sorry to see death notice for John Chapman. He was an excellent instructer in Geography at UBC. My late husband and I were students in the postwar rush just after WW2 and 'Chappie" was one of the brighter lights for us. You will miss him.

Many wonderful memories of John as a mentor and senior colleague during my nine years at UBC

I read about the death of your Father , Ian, today in The Globe and Mail. Learning so much more about his life and accomplishments
somewhat eased my sadness. He was such a lovely man, Ian. My childhood memories are sharing time with your family at special get togethers. Do you remember the rustic Christmas at Bowen Island in the 60's? John gave the toast to the bride( me ) at a wedding in 1972, and he was kind, eloquent and amusing. My thoughts are with you all as you remember John on June 22.
