John Chapman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 9 to Mar. 11, 2011.
Chapman, John O. (Jack) Died in Regina on March 6, 2011 at the age of 79 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Olive of 60 years, daughter Judy (Joseph), granddaughters Leslie and Amy together with his extended family around the world. Jack served his community by working for SaskPower for 35 years and by representing Estevan and southeast Saskatchewan as an alderman, a member of hospital and housing boards, and a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He served on church councils for the Lutheran community in Estevan, Regina, Lumsden, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada. He served on the Board of Luther College in Regina. He was a leader in studying the environmental impact of the Rafferty Dam and in supporting worker's health and safety with respect to asbestos abatement. He loved learning and to prove it he learned to play the baritone tuba in the Lumsden Community Adult Band long after he thought maybe he should. Through it all Jack ensured that family and friends shared many memorable moments of fun, music, and laughter -no matter the challenge, the road we took was enjoyable given his leadership. And, we cannot forget, that, above all, he shared his smiles, hugs, peppermints, and his love of nature, fishing, camping, sailing, skiing, golfing, music, dominos, and the art of the possible with everyone. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Lumsden, SK on Saturday March 12 at 2:00 PM, with reception to follow at Lumsden Centennial hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in John's name to a charity of your choice.

Very sad to hear of the passing of my friend Jack. I worked with Jack in the 1985 to 1995 period. He shared his experience, views and counsel very carefully and thoughtfully. He gave me an appreciation of Canadian history and politics. Some of his lessons and stories I still remember and use in my teaching. Condolences to Olive, Judy, Leslie and Amy.

Sorry for your loss. Jack was the best pseudo-norskie I ever knew! He had the best accent. What a friendly guy he was. He always greeted me with "Takk for sist".

• What a great Canadian. John gave the very best in all of his endeavours. By example and his actions, he demonstrated to everyone around him the meaning of true ethics, honesty and thoughtfulness toward people his work and all everything he touched. John always took the time and effort to learn new things ensuring that whatever he undertook was given his best. He will always be remembered. We are so sorry that we are unable to attend the Service and we offer our most sincere condolences to Olive and all his family.
