John Chapman Obituary
Wharton, NJ - John "Jack" Chapman passed away at his home in Wharton, NJ, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, December 27th after a long illness. He was 81.
Jack grew up in Roseland and Livingston, New Jersey and spent his adult years in Parsippany and Randolph before moving to Wharton in 1992.
He loved his profession and was very proud to have been named Teacher of the Year by the Governor's Recognition Program in 1992. The majority of his 40+ years in education were spent teaching 5th and 6th grade at Redwood Elementary School in West Orange. After his retirement, Jack tutored adults at ESL, traveled, played his piano, visited with friends, and was always cooking meals to bring to people who needed them, but his greatest joy was spending time with his granddaughter and the family dog, Rummy. Jack will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor, and his love for his family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Charles Drake Chapman and Beatrice F. Danows LaPorta and his brother-in-law Glynn Roberts.
He leaves behind his sister Carol Roberts of Lords Valley, PA, a brother Charles and his wife Grace Chapman of Richboro, PA, son Steven Chapman and his fiance Nicolet Nelson, daughter Jessica Losey and her fiance Kevin Culleny of Succasunna, granddaughter Victoria Losey of Succasunna and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A service will be held at Ledgewood Baptist Church, 233 Main Street, Ledgewood, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. A repass will follow at 22 Kentwood Rd., Succasunna. A private burial will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Jack's favorite charity, Deborah Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Rd. Parsippany, NJ 07005.

I´ll always remember Mr Chapman. My 5th grade teacher at Redwood in W.O. He was soft spoken and had patience. He also volunteered to tutor me at home in 6th grade when I had mono. I was one, rather we were one of the first to do home study so I would not fall behind. Instead I was ahead of everyone. I´ll never forget him. Sorry for your loss.

My "little brother" Jack became a big part of my teen-age years, especially after our parents' divorce. We grew closer during those difficult years. College and careers in distant locations made visits more sporadic, but as we married and had families, we reconnected and got.closer over the years. I am so proud of his teaching career, and his closeness and support of Jessica, Victoria, and Steven. He was so.proud of you!
I will miss our visits and frequent phone conversations.
Grace and I love you, Jack!
