John Ciccolo, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2024.
John (Jack) H. Ciccolo, Jr., a unique, funny, and generous man who had many stories to tell, died peacefully at home on June 15, 2024 at the age of 81.

Born on Nov. 8, 1942 to John H. Ciccolo, Sr. and Ernestine B. Ciccolo (neé Bartlett), Jack grew up with his brother Stephen in North Falmouth, MA, and always remained attracted to the water. He bought his first boat, an eight-foot sea sled, at 12 and was soon wanted in two harbors for speeding. In seventh grade, he met his future wife, Lexine, whom he married in 1964 in Monterey, CA. A six-foot-six lefty, Jack played first base and pitched in the Cape Cod League from 1962-63 while attending Brown University, then joined the army and worked as an analyst and staff sergeant at the NSA from 1965-67. He completed his PhD in economics at Yale University in 1975 and taught at Columbia University, Yale, and Boston College. While living in Southboro, MA, Jack and Lexine had two children, Drew and Paige. They moved to Glen Ridge, NJ in 1983 and, for the next 10 years, Jack worked as a VP and SVP at Citibank, CRT, and the Bank of Tokyo. The family spent summers in Centerville, MA, where Jack loved taking people fishing on his red 26' Fortier fishing boat, the Rope-a-Dope. In Glen Ridge, Jack planted a large vegetable garden that increased annually in size, and liked to share his crops, which eventually included carnival-sized pumpkins, with neighbors. Beginning in 1994, he worked independently as a databases, computer systems, websites, aircraft leasing, and UPC programming consultant for a variety of firms. In 2007, due to cardiac and pulmonary issues, the VA gave him a five-year life expectancy, which he wound up exceeding by a full 12 years. Jack inherited a beloved cat named Peanut, took a deep interest in his health, and moved into a senior building in Verona, NJ, where he made many friends, including his closest companion, Sandra. Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed helping people and making them laugh.

Jack was predeceased by his wife, Lexine R. Ciccolo (neé Archer), who died in December 2010, and his daughter, Paige E. Ciccolo, who died six months later in May 2011. He is survived by his younger brother, Stephen Ciccolo; his sister-in-law, Lynn Ciccolo; his nephews, David and Matt Ciccolo; and his son, Drew. He is missed dearly. A memorial gathering is being planned and friends and family will be contacted in advance.

Jack was one of the most brilliant and kind people I have ever met. His humble, humerus and pragmatic style was a breath of fresh air to all who worked with him.

I was fortunate enough to be mentored by Jack, and I will always be grateful for his kind, sincere and thoughtful guidance.

Jack played first base on our Econ Dept. softball team. I captained the team from 1969 to 1971 and relied on Jack.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting John, his bright and creative light shines on in Drew. No doubt this man loved his life and all of its possibilities. He has flown away, but all who knew him will remember his angle of interesting vision into the human condition. Rest in peace, John! With sincere sympathy from Louise Castronova ( friend and colleague of Drew)
